Description
This left hand drive 1976 Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera S fitted with a five speed manual gearbox, was originally sold in California where it spent it's life until it was purchased by the current owner and imported to the UK in March 2018. In its first year in the UK, an RS Lightweight conversion was carried out which included bodywork repairs and a full bare metal respray in 2018/19 which was carried out by OSC in Chessington.
As the car had spent its pre-UK life in San Diego, California, there were only two minor areas of corrosion that needed addressing. The front wing extensions that house the indicators are metal and genuine Porsche parts and the rear engine cover is metal with a fibreglass ducktail spoiler fitted. The front bonnet has been replaced with a genuine Porsche period 'long bonnet'. The car has been built to Lightweight rather than Touring specification, so both the front and rear bumpers are fibreglass as they would have been on an original car. Finished in Viper Green which is an original Porsche period factory colour, the paintwork is in very good condition throughout. The wheels are original Fuchs alloys with extremely rare deep-dish rears. The interior is largely original but some tasteful upgrades have been made as the owner wanted a usable classic with the external appearance of a '73 RS rather than a full replica. The steering wheel is the original, although it has been retrimmed in Nappa leather, as indeed has the dashboard. The present owner also added genuine 70's era Porsche electric seats with twelve-way control on the driver's side and eight-way on the passenger side. Along with the seats, Porsche electric window mechanisms and switches and a modern face off radio were fitted to make the car more usable and comfortable. The original seats, manual window winders and mechanisms are available should a future owner wished to return the car to stock. The owner reports that the engine runs well and as the car started out as a 2.7 Carrera S, the engine is largely similar to a genuine RS. There have not been many upgrades to the engine, other than the correct twin exhaust system fitted and a replacement oil sump with oil drain. The warm-up regulator and the fuel injection distributor have both been rebuilt by renowned experts KMI. The fuel injectors have been replaced by Porsche specialists GT-One in Chertsey, who also completed all the other engine work. Servicing has been carried out on an annual basis and the most recent service replaced the oil, filters, plugs and leads. The four Continental tyres have done less than 200 miles. The car is supplied with a V5 registration document, its original owner's manual/service book and two sets of keys. Accompanying this is a Porsche letter confirming the car has matching numbers, a file containing invoices from GT-One for the work completed and all of the invoices for parts and KMI work. There are service stamps in the warranty book that run to the early 2000's when car was parked up by its previous owner in California and mileages match from the last stamp to the car's odometer. Consigned by John Tomlin.
