Description

M.C.C. are thrilled to offer for sale a Stuttgart Unicorn, the Porsche 964 Turbo S Leichtbau!

1992 - 77.000 km - 980.000€

To revitalise the company’s struggling finances in the early 90's, Porsche needed to introduce thrilling new models. To achieve this, Rolf SPRENGER, head of Porsche Exclusive, submitted a three-page proposal for a high-performance version of the 964 Turbo 3.3!

Inspired by the racecar that won the 1992 IMSA Supercar Championship, the upcoming Leichtbau was designed to be a rare, ultra-focused model. It featured brake cooling intakes where the front fog lights used to be, a revised rear spoiler, 18" three-piece Speedline wheels with red brake calipers, and lightweight components made from glass fiber-reinforced carbon composite panels. Additional weight-saving measures included thinner glass, reduced soundproofing, and simplified door cards, leading to a remarkable reduction of 180kg!

The chassis was seam-welded and reinforced, and the front end was stiffened with a new alloy strut brace. The ride height was lowered by 40 mm with sport suspension. Just 86 units were produced, all between July and November of 1992, for the 1993 model year!

Even with its already significant weight reduction, further enhancements were made to improve performance. The 3.3L flat 6 engine received more aggressive camshafts, larger fuel injectors, and an upgraded KKK turbocharger, increasing output by 61 HP, bringing the total to 381 HP. This allowed the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds, with a top speed of 290 km/h. Rear-quarter vents borrowed from the 959 supercar helped manage engine temperatures, while the engine bay also featured a distinctive red intercooler housing and air filter unit, signaling that this was the most extreme Turbo variant of its time.

Our Leichtbau was delivered new by the Porsche factory in Stuttgart on the 17th of November 1992, finished in Speed Yellow. Where she left with the all important options ticked off 654 (No-Airbag), 656 (No-Power Steering) and No-Radio (later fitted). Making this example one of believed to be 14 examples in the purest and most raw form!

Having thoroughly gone over the motorcar, its clear she has aged gracefully, has received paint only on the passenger door and is highly original.
She is delivered with a fresh service, new tyres, as well as a full detailing!
