Description
1955 Pegaso Tipo Z-102B 2.8 Saoutchik Coupe Speciale
Designed by Wifredo Ricart – chief engineer at pegaso (ex – Alfa Romeo under Ferrari) this Spanish built GT is one of approximately 18 cars with aluminium bodywork by French coachbuilder Saoutchik.
*Chassis no. 0102-150 0148 – Engine no. 0102-017 0148
*Believed to be one of five surviving LHD Saoutchik-bodied Series II Berlinettas
*The 1954 Paris Auto Salon show car
*Period competition history
*Previously part of a number of world famous collections
Originally displayed at the 1954 Paris Salon, the Grand Palais is where Parisian Jean-Claude Lamy saw this Saoutchik bodied Pegaso and immediately purchased it. A keen Rally enthusiast, Lamy entered several rallies including the ’54 Rallye Pan Armoricaine, and the following year’s Rallye Sablé-Solesmes.
Like so many European exotics, the Saoutchik coupé found its way to the USA where Don Rickert used the car in and around Alabama until May 1964 when it was sold to Bill Harrah, the gambling industry magnate who added the Pegaso to his ever-growing collection in Reno, Nevada. Harrah kept the highly original Z-102B in his 1450-car museum until his death in 1978.
Subsequently the Harrah collection was greatly reduced through a series of private sales and auctions, and the Pegaso was acquired by Ralph Englestad for the Imperial Palace Auto Collection in Las Vegas.
In 2017 the museum closed and the Pegaso was sold to a private collector and totally restored to Pebble Beach standards. The Saoutchik bodywork was enhanced with the glamorous two-tone paint scheme inspired by the Series BS2 Éspecial.
In February 2019, 76 years after its debut in the Grand Palais, the Saoutchik coupé returned to Paris for display at the World famous Rétromobile.
Currently forming part of a World class collection of a well-known European collector, this extremely rare and desirable Saoutchik bodied Pegaso is available exclusively with Cars International Heritage.
