Description

These fabulous and popular little cars were designed in 1959 and were heralded as a new concept in car design. Little did they know or envisage what would become of these great models. With a monocoque shell, transversely mounted engine and front wheel drive, the new 'Mini' soon became popular across the world and to all types of individuals well healed or not! The potential for competition use was soon seen by John Cooper; he eventually persuaded BMC and the two worked together culminating in the birth of the Austin Mini Cooper and the Morris Mini Cooper in 1961. Victories in the 1964, 1965 and 1967 Monte-Carlo Rallies set the Mini on the road to fame but probably the greatest publicity was gained from their, somewhat unfair, disqualification for lighting irregularities in the 1966 event after coming in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. A more powerful Mini Cooper, dubbed the 'S', was developed in tandem and released in 1963.

The supplied British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate with this lovely 997cc Morris Mini Cooper shows the car was despatched on 28th June 1962. This example is an early car having been built within the first twelve months of the Cooper's production and before the introduction of the Cooper S in 1963. A UK supplied car, it was delivered to W. Webber Ltd in Basingstoke, the only factory extra fitted being a fresh air heater. A ground up restoration was completed in 2024 and the car is finished to a high standard with a Newton Commercial interior and great attention to detail including the correct 3.5” wheels with stainless steel Deluxe trims. The only deviation from how it left the factory was the fitting of uprated Cooper S brake discs along with an assisting servo. The vendor reports the car to run and drive very well and is only selling due to a change of plans.

Supplied with its V5 registration document, original green logbook and Morris driver's handbook. This Cooper is a beautiful example that will be hard to match. Consigned by Will Penrose
