Description
1988 – Mini 1000 Monte Carlo Replica
Estimate: 15,000 – 20,000 €
‘Our’ Mini was registered for the first time in 1988 and was completely restored in 2017. The body was a solid base on which to work: it was completely stripped down and sanded, then painted in the Tartan Red and Old English White colours of the Mini Cooper S which Aaltonen and Liddon drove to victory in the 1967 Monte Carlo Rally. Some cosmetic alterations were made to the car, including new lights, exterior door hinges, a radiator grille and boot lid from a Mark I and 10-inch Minilite wheels. It has all the features of the rally-winning Mini, with a roof rack, additional spotlights, Group 2-style extended wings, a central exhaust and period stickers. The Mini has retained its original Cooper Monte Carlo interior with red carpets. It has been fitted with a Cobra bucket seat for the driver and a dashboard with a central Smiths speedometer. On the mechanical side, a full service has been carried out and the engine slightly uprated with the fitment of electronic ignition. The suspension meanwhile is new. The Mini has covered fewer than 400 miles since it was restored: it is now ready to take to the road again and let you re-live the experience enjoyed by rally drivers in the day.
