Description
Eager to resume civilian automobile production after WWII, MG launched the
TC in October 1945. Based on the prewar TB, the TC was exported to North
America by 1947, and soon enjoyed cult-like acclaim. Just 2,001 examples were
shipped to the US, where the TC served as an early mount for many racing
legends, including John Fitch, Phil Hill, Carroll Shelby, Dick Thompson, and
John von Neumann. The TC also inspired MG enthusiast Al Moss to establish
the sports car parts and service industry in postwar America.
This 1948 MG TC, chassis TC6371, benefits handsomely from a well-maintained,
nut-and-bolt restoration. Featuring glossy Clipper Blue paint over supple Biscuit
upholstery, it retains a proper XPAG 1,250 cc engine and correct mechanicals, plus excellent ash wooden body framing and a clean undercarriage. Period-correct
accessories include proper Lucas lamps, signals and hardware, a matching canvas
full cab, half-zip tonneau cover, and side curtains. In addition to an instruction manual, this high-quality TC is accompanied by correct tools including a restored jack plus an auxiliary starting crank and Thor wheel hammer. An MG duffle bag contains a car cover, goggles, driving gloves, and even a Pendleton motor robe with a leather case.
Riding on correct painted wire wheels with period style 4.50-19 Dunlop tires,
this 1948 MG TC is a wonderful example of one of the world’s all-time most
important sports cars.
