Description
The 1600 Mk II, introduced in April 1961, was the last development of the MG A which had been in production since 1955. The engine was enlarged to 1’622cc and delivered a healthy 90 hp. Cosmetic changes were restricted to a new radiator grille as well as larger taillights from the Morris Mini. By the end of June 1962, 7’490 roadsters with left hand drive had been completed by the Abingdon works. The example offered, completed in 1962, boast the optional hardtop and was originally a Swiss delivery albeit remaining unsold for a number of years. In June 1970, the roadster was taken over by the vendor and registered for the first time. Over the past 55 years the MG has seen enthusiastic use and regular maintenance. In 2021 the car received new tyres, in 2023 both batteries were replaced and the carburettors cleaned and their gaskets replaced. In September 2024, barely 200 kilometres ago, the cylinder head was overhauled and a major service performed. The interior had been restored some years ago and the coach work present itself in good condition with age correct signs of use in the paint and the shiny bits. Advancing years of the owner resulted in the MG having seen little use over the last years and the owner has now decided to pass it on to the next collector. The most recent MOT of this British classic was completed in September 2024.
