The fifth generation of the legendary SL series of two-door convertible sports cars made by Mercedes-Benz was known as the R230. It featured a fully retractable hardtop that was marketed as the Vario Roof; a first for the SL Class although it had been available on the smaller SLK model since 1997.

Registered new in 2003, this SL500 is presented in metallic black with a cream leather interior. This SL has been part of a small private collection since new and although currently running and MoT'd it would benefit from some further recommissioning work to bring it to its best, including the convertible roof system. Having had only two former keepers from new and covering a mere 33,500 miles, this is a rare opportunity indeed. A wonderful sporty yet practical roadster, the SL500 is a classy summer classic that when the autumn arrives has the Vario Roof to transform it into a sleek coupe for all seasons.
