Description

As the successor to the legendary 300 SL series built from 1954 to 1963, the W113 SL had enormous shoes to fill. The German automaker shifted the focus of the SL to be more of a luxurious grand tourer, and the Paul Bracq-designed roadster was lauded from new as the next great Mercedes-Benz. In addition to having a fuel-injected, inline six-cylinder engine, four-wheel independent suspension, and all-around disc brakes, the 280 SL was Mercedes-Benz’s first sports car to feature a unibody construction with front and rear deformation zones.

Originally finished in gray, this 280 SL was expertly refinished in 2013 by marque specialist Tony Labella in Silver (DB 180) with a contrasting red leather interior.

Since that time, this Pagoda has been used sparingly, with outings limited to exhibitions at a handful of concours. Earlier this year, the Mercedes-Benz was the recipient of a mechanical refresh, a new convertible top, and refinishing of the chrome exterior trim, according to the consignor. The 280 SL is desirably appointed with a Frigiking air-conditioning system, which has been serviced including the replacement of hoses and compressor unit, making this 280 SL suitable for long-distance driving in all weather conditions. With its legendary build quality, versatile top options, ample luggage space, and ideal colors, it might just be the perfect choice for recreational driving.
