Description

Chassis No. 113.044.12.006207

Finished in Grey Blue Metallic (906) with a Blue MB-Tex interior, this 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda features a four-speed automatic transmission, a correct under-dash air conditioning unit, a blue folding soft top, and a color-keyed removable hardtop. The current owner acquired the car in June 2007, and today it is offered with a detailed service history spanning over 130 pages beginning in April 1974.

Over the past 17 years this Pagoda has received regular servicing and continuous improvements while maintaining a factory-correct appearance. Some of these upgrades include replacement of new-old stock bumpers, overriders with rubber inserts, and both headlamp and taillight assemblies with factory seals. A dark blue convertible top was installed with the correct type of German square weave, and the inner windshield surround upholstery was reconditioned. The steel wheels have been restored with body color-matched hubcaps, and a factory replacement exhaust has been fitted. Inside, the seats were reupholstered with new covers, padding, and foam. A complete carpet kit has been installed for the front, rear, and console areas. The door panels have been replaced along with window guides, door sill trim, and plates. The woodwork, including the center console, has been restored in the accurate satin sheen. The Becker Europa radio has been upgraded with Bluetooth functionality with correct kick panel speakers, further adding to the touring experience.

The upgrades continue with mechanicals. A restored, replacement cylinder head was installed at a cost of over $10,000. The fuel injection has been serviced with a pump rebuild and new injectors. The braking, cooling, and ignition systems have been overhauled, starter replaced, and countless rubber components were replaced from subframe, transmission, and engine mounts to numerous suspension bushings. A thorough inspection of the online history files is strongly recommended due to the extensive efforts to improve this 280 SL both cosmetically and mechanically.

With an impressive level of documentation reflective of the care received since new, this 280 SL Pagoda remains in excellent condition today. Under current ownership nearly $30,000 has been spent on this timeless landmark of mid-century design and offers a wonderful opportunity to savor a "W113" in both coupe and roadster configurations, so elegantly penned by Béla Barényi and Paul Bracq.
