When the Mercedes-Benz 230 SL made its debut at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show, it faced the weighty task of following in the footsteps of its esteemed predecessors, the 300 SL and 190 SL. Mercedes-Benz aimed to address previous criticisms by offering a sports car that was both more affordable than the 300 SL and more powerful than the 190 SL. Professor Fritz Nallinger, the esteemed head of development and research at Mercedes-Benz, articulated the company's vision for the 230 SL, emphasizing the desire to create a sports car that was not only fast and safe but also provided exceptional comfort for long journeys. Over the years, the 230 SL attracted a roster of influential owners, including John Lennon, Sophia Loren, and Sir Stirling Moss, solidifying its status as a timeless classic embraced by icons across the globe.

The 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL on offer was ordered new in White (050) with a Cognac MB-Tex (120) interior. Wanting a pure driving experience, the digital copy of its original Data Card shows the car was ordered with power steering (422) and an outside rearview mirror on the left (503). With no additional option codes, the car was equipped with the standard yet sporting four-speed manual transmission.

More recently, the car was the subject of a comprehensive restoration. The car was stripped to a bare chassis prior to the bodywork being refinished with its current Sand Beige Metallic paintwork. As a complement to the refinished exterior, the interior was retrimmed with Bamboo leather. The rest of the car's systems, from the suspension to the brakes and the trim, were all renewed to the same outstanding level of finish by well-known shops throughout Germany, including Peter Finkemeier of Kirchlengern, Germany, who performed the mechanical work. As a result of this effort, the car is offered in splendid condition and has only covered a limited number of miles since its completion. With its desirable manual transmission and drop-top appeal, this elegant 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL is the epitome of European mid-century style.
