Wonderful example of Mercedes 280 GE​​, sold new in Modena the 31st October 1980 in white over fabric black and tan tartan. It is model that mounts the reliable 6 cylinder in line petrol engine, paired with the manual 4 speed gearbox. As aftermarket option, mounted directly by the Mercedes dealer, we find the useful Behr air conditioning system, which works well, together with the automatic doors lock, the rev counter and the servo assisted steering wheel. ​

With less than 92,000 km in 44 years this G-class presents in great conditions, in an incredible state of preservation, rust free, complete with every single original detail, including standard equipment, tools, jack, booklets and - original - spare tyre. The rubber mats, for example, have always been protected so they appear as new, as well as the seat fabric, free of any sign of wear.

The rarity of this example is due to the year of production - among the first built -, easily recognizable by the rear double doors and the two-spoke steering wheel.
For the rest, it is the progenitor of the Geländerwagen, difficult to find with the petrol engine, even more so with the accessories mentioned above that make it perfect daily driver, with 150 horsepower more than enough both on the road and off.

The off-road capabilities are based on the experience of the Austrian Steyr-Puch, Mercedes' partner in the G project, starting in 1972 when the two companies signed an agreement to propose a luxury off-road vehicle capable of traveling easily in the desert and on glaciers. After some agreements not respected with armies of different countries, in mid-1979 the definitive version was presented, badged mainly as Mercedes-Benz, but in some countries as Puch, in the more spartan versions, aimed at work. The model's popularity has meant that after more than 40 years Mercedes continues production, despite having transformed the essence of the off-roader par excellence, from an efficient and rather spartan vehicle to a luxury, super sporty and high-performance object.

Bellissimo esemplare di Mercedes 280 GE, venduto a Modena il 31 ottobre 1980 nel colore bianco con interni in stoffa neri e beige. Si tratta della versione con il collaudato e brillante motore 6 cilindri a benzina abbinato al cambio manuale a 4 marce. Come accessorio montato dal concessionario troviamo l'impianto di aria condizionata Behr, perfettamente funzionante, oltre alla chiusura centralizzata ed al contagiri. Servosterzo e vetri ambrati facevano parte invece della dotazione di serie.

Avendo percorso meno di 92.000 km in 44 anni, l'auto di presenta in ordine, in uno stato di conservazione incredibile, priva di ruggine, completa di ogni singolo dettaglio originale, compreso l'equipaggiamento di serie, attrezzi, cric e ruota di scorta. I tappeti di gomma, ad esempio, sono sempre stati protetti per cui si presentano come nuovi, così come il tessuto dei sedili, privo di qualsiasi segno di usura.

La rarità di questo esemplare è dovuto all'anno di produzione - tra i primi costruiti -, facilmente riconoscibile per le porte posteriori ad armadio e per il volante a due razze.
Per il resto, si tratta del capostipite del Geländerwagen, difficile da trovare nell'allestimento a benzina, ancora di più con gli accessori sopra citati che ne fanno un mezzo fruibile quotidianamente, coon 150 cavalli più che sufficienti sia per strada che fuori.

Le doti fuoristradistiche si basano sull'esperienza dell'austriaca Steyr-Puch, partner di Mercedes nel progetto G, a partire dal 1972 quando le due aziende strinsero l'accordo per proporre un fuoristrada di lusso capace di viaggiare agevolmente nel deserto e sui ghiacciai. Dopo alcune commesse di eserciti non rispettate, a metà del 1979 venne presentata la versione definitiva, commercializzata principalmente come Mercedes-Benz, ma in alcuni paesi come Puch, nelle versioni più spartane, votate al lavoro. Il gradimento del modello ha fatto sì che dopo oltre 40 anni Mercedes prosegua la produzione, pur avendo trasformato l'essenza del fuoristrada a tra punte per eccellenza, da vettura efficace e piuttosto spartana ad oggetto di lusso, super sportivo e prestazione.
