Description

Chassis No. WDB4632061X118986

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has a rich history dating back to its origins in the early 1970s, driven by the Shah of Iran's influence as a major shareholder of Daimler-Benz. His advocacy for a robust off-road vehicle laid the groundwork for what would evolve into the now iconic G-Class. By 1990, the G-Wagen underwent significant updates with the introduction of the W463 model, marking a pivotal shift where utilitarianism met luxury in the realm of high-end off-road vehicles.

In the late 1990s, Mercedes-Benz introduced the G 500 Cabriolet and then added to its exclusivity by creating a limited-edition variant known as the "Classic" model in 1999 to commemorate the G-Wagen's 20th anniversary. These vehicles were distinguished by their Almandine Black Metallic paint, heated two-tone smooth Black and Purple Nappa leather, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Featuring body-colored bumpers, illuminated sill covers, and walnut interior details, the G 500 Classic combined classic G-Wagen ruggedness with opulent refinements.

While finding a G 500 Classic can be a challenge, locating a Cabriolet version is even more difficult. It is reported that 500 Classic editions were produced, of which a mere 12 Cabriolet versions are believed to have been built, solidifying its status as one of the rarest G-Class Cabrio models ever manufactured until production ceased in 2014. This particular G 500 Classic Cabriolet is offered in largely original condition and benefits from upgraded five-spoke 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels. At the time of cataloging, this car boasted a low mileage of just under 48,000 kilometers, or the equivalent of 30,000 miles. Reported to have been sparingly used by a single owner from new in Germany until it was imported to the United States in 2024, the car remains in impressive condition today. The car additionally benefits from 16,000€ or over $17,000 in recent maintenance rendered by Mercedes-Benz of Munich, Germany where the fuel system was serviced, transmission serviced, the brake discs and pads were replaced, the left front caliper overhauled, exhaust system replaced, engine oil change, and servicing the air conditioning system.

From its inception as a highly capable off-roader, to its evolution into a symbol of luxury and durability, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has reveled in its iconic status over the decades. Mercedes-Benz never officially offered the G-Glass Cabriolet in the United States, and as a result, these highly sought after models remain a scarcity Stateside. Furthermore, this G 500 Classic Cabriolet was imported to the U.S. in 2024 and is now outside the restrictions of the infamous "25-Year Rule." Forbidden fruit so long, the irresistibly tempting G 500 Classic Cabriolet is now well within reach.
