“Classics2drive” is thrilled to present the sale of Lister ‘BHL 16’, one of the most original of the remaining Lister Jaguar’s.
This extraordinary and very exceptional car is number 13 of the only 16 ‘Knobbly’ Lister built. 11 production cars were built and 5 works Lister.
We are offering the car together with an extra engine in a package – “a chance in a lifetime” opportunity!
This engine was assembled in 1962/ early 1963 at the Jaguar Factory competition department as a spare engine to hold for anyone needing a replacement 3.8 D type or Lister dry sump wide angle engine. It is today absolutely impossible to find another engine these days, a so very rare chance to acquire car and engine together.

The car has been built and supplied in November 1958 by Brian Lister in Cambridge to Kjell Qvale Automotive Inc. Los Angeles, USA for driver Jack Flaherty, former Pacific Coast Champion, followed by prevalent Californian racer Chuck Howard, USA and raced widely during the years 1950 and 1960.
Dismantled in the early 1960’s and stored for many years on a farm in Oklahoma, it wasn’t until 1987 in the hands of a new owner that the Lister was the subject of a detailed restoration. It underwent a comprehensive and impeccable restoration over many years through John Harden. Harden is worldwide known as the best and most famous restorer of the brands Allard and Lister. This restoration is still regarded as holding very well today, nearly 30 years later. From an expert point of view this example here is one of the best restored Lister at all! Original chassis, original engine, original “wide-angle” D-type head , 3 original Weber 45DC03 carburettors, original instruments, original gearbox , original back axle etc.
In 1992 this amazing open-2-seater restarted to join several historical races again at Laguna Seca, Monterey during the years 1992-2004.

After more than 30 years in ownership of David Reynolds, he decided to sell the car in 2003 the car to Dr. Christian Jenny to Switzerland who is a well-known and respected Jaguar collector.

This fantastic car has been a participant between 2006 and 2016 in divers Grand Prix races in Switzerland. Also a participant at the concours Pebble Beach in 1992 and in Villa D’Este in 2005. Many photographs and files out of this era present.

A spectacular car that needs to be seen and driven to be fully appreciated! A thrill to drive. Excellent handling and performance!

Since 2019 in possession of current owner in Germany. BHL 16 is offered for sale from a private classic car and Jaguar collection. The car is registered in Germany on German number plates.

This Lister is suitable for the most selective collections and certainly to draw attention at the most selective and high-rated motoring classic car events and races.
