This 1969 Series IIa is an original left-hand-drive, petrol (not-diesel) version built for export. As is common with the US versions, it was outfitted as a Station Wagon with hardtop and rear door.

The Land Rover was acquired years ago by a well-regarded car collector who’s garage included Vintage Bentleys, Jaguars and other desirable British sports cars. Discovered in a Tennessee aircraft hangar where it had been sitting unused for some time, the truck was relocated to Illinois where it saw occasional use around the farm, pulling the horse trailer and making trips to the feed mill.

After years of reliable use, the owner decided to have the Land Rover restored by Highgate Motors of Barrington Illinois. The work included full disassembly and subsequent rebuild with a new, powder coated frame, while the body was also disassembled and received new paintwork inside and out. In addition to the many small items and hardware which was replaced, the Land Rover got new, upgraded 16” wheels, a new front bumper, new windscreen, and a new interior with safer and more comfortable front seats.

Cosmetically complete, the Land Rover was sent to the owner’s preferred mechanic, British Car Repair in San Rafael, California for some further upgrades and necessary mechanical attention. The truck was fitted with a replacement transfer case, new driveshaft, various seals and hardware and a new set of parabolic leaf springs.

Finished in Poppy Red with Limestone wheels and roof, the Land Rover presents beautifully, and benefits from a level of attention few receive. With roughly $70,000 in recent work, the Land Rover can be a trusted addition to any collection.
