Description
The Lancia Fúlvia HF 1600 Group 4 Ex Mario Delfino .... Chassis : 818540-001623 ... The Fulvia model was described as ‘a car of precision, a tour de force of engineering. Despite being a front-wheel drive car, it dominated the world rally championship, winning several races with Sandro Munari and Mario Manucci, Amilcare Ballestrieri and other notable drivers. With the Fulvia, Lancia created its iconic racing team, the HF (High Fidelity) Squadra Corsa, with legendary chief mechanic Cessare Fiorio. The ultimate expression of the Fulvia Coupé, the 1600 HF Fanalone came with a 1,584 cc engine that produced 115 bhp in road version, with up to 165 bhp available in rally version. The works team used the 1600 HF consistently between 1969 and 1974, securing seven European Championship victories in 1970, six in 1971 and seven the following year to win the World Rally Championship for Makes in 1972. Alpine-Renault's A110 won the title for the French manufacturer in 1973, but the HF1600 wasn't finished yet, helping Lancia to a second Brands championship in 1974, along with the Stratos and Beta Coupé, while Harry Källström (1969) and Sandro Munari (1972) became European Rally Champions at the wheel of the HF1600. (Before the appearance of the Drivers' World Championship in 1978,the European Championship was the only official FIA rally championship for drivers). The Fulvia's driver line-up includes some of the greatest names in rallying history: Ove Andersson, Vic Elford, Pauli Toivonen, Réné Trautman, Leo Cella, Rauno Aaltonen and Simo Lampinen, as well as Munari and Källström.A landmark model of enormous significance, the Fulvia 1600 HF effectively established Lancia's considerable reputation on the World Rally stage and paved the way for the legendary Stratos, Rally 037 and Delta Integrale models. When production ended in 1973, a total of 3,690 1600 HF stradale (for road use) had been produced, with a further 1,258 built to Rallye specification. Today, genuine Fanalones are rare and valuable. This stunning and rare Fulvia Rally 1600 HF is equipped with an even rarer engine, labelled ‘818540 VAR 1016’, which is an official unit believed to have been taken from the factory-registered Fulvia 1600 HF that won the 1970 Austrian Rally (the engine number corresponds to the chassis number of that car). The Fulvia shown here is the Group 4 private car that took part in the 1975 San Remo Rally driven by Delfino/DeNegri (Delfino was the car's registered owner at the time). Competitor number ‘’‘’46‘’‘’, Delfino/DeNegri's Fulvia was classified 33rd at the end (see photo in file). It's clear from the original libretto that Delfino owned this car from 1974 until April 1975, when it was sold to the next owner, who kept the car until 2016, when it was sold to a collector and enthusiast. A sticker on the car states that it was checked (inspected) for the 1976 edition of the Valli Imperiesi Rally. It has undergone a complete body/mechanical restoration and is in magnificent condition. It also has all the photographs of the restoration and all the Fia documentation, rally and owner histories. Mechanically, this specimen is powered by a 1600cc engine with 165bhp, capable of reaching a top speed of close to 170km/short ratio gearbox, and the bodywork has a good weight distribution at just 900kg .
