Two years on from stunning both the crowd on the ground and the internet with its fifth-generation fighter jet-inspired Reventón, Lamborghini returned to the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009 to unveil a Roadster counterpart. Not only was production even more exclusive, with a mere 15 examples built compared to 20 coupés, but the convertible also boasted a more potent powerplant.

Borrowing the naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V-12 motor from the Murciélago LP670-4 SV, the Reventón Roadster was rated at 660 horsepower—a figured verified by an accompanying engine certificate signed by Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann, Research and Development Director Maurizio Reggiani, and Industrial Director Ranieri Niccoli. Transmitting its power through a six-speed “E-Gear” automated manual transmission and four-wheel drive, the Roadster could launch to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds and onto a maximum speed of 205.

With their attention-grabbing design and rarity, these Reventón showstoppers set a template among supercar manufacturers. In addition to successors from Lamborghini itself, Ferrari, McLaren, Aston Martin, and others would soon enough all come to reveal limited-series offerings based on their existing models.

This example was delivered to its first owner in Switzerland on 6 July 2010 via Lamborghini Porrentruy. In keeping with the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor that shaped so much of the car’s styling, the Roadster was finished in the model-specific satin shade of Grigio Reventón over similarly stealthy Grey Alcantara trim. The interior is also notable for the trio of TFT liquid crystal screens that make up the instrument panel and mimic aircraft head-up displays.

Stamps in the service book reflect that the Reventón Roadster returned to the Lamborghini Porrentruy dealership in August 2012 (2,371 kilometres), August 2013 (3,187 kilometres), and January 2018 (3,778 kilometres) for routine maintenance. Later in the year the car was acquired by the consigning owner, who registered it in their native Germany.

Complemented by a military-style shoulder bag and Lamborghini ‘flight case’ housing the chassis-specific engine certificate, this Reventón Roadster displayed just 4,102 kilometres on its odometer at the time of cataloguing.

An outrageous styling exercise that continues to influence contemporary Lamborghini design and a sure-fire star of concours events for decades to come, this incredibly rare and low-owner Reventón Roadster would make for a headline addition to any car collection.
