Seeking to commemorate the 25th birthday of the most renowned car to bear the Lamborghini name, the Countach 25th Anniversary was revealed for the first time at the 1988 Italian Grand Prix. This new Countach retained the same visual panache and performance of the existing 5000 QV but featured roughly 500 subtle changes and improvements intended to increase passenger comfort and refine its style.
Horacio Pagani, then an employee of Lamborghini, was tasked with redesigning the bodywork. This included the raising of the nose and re-engineering the air intakes to improve the channeling of air towards the front brakes. At the rear of the car, the bumper received subtle styling changes. The air intakes located just behind the doors received thicker strakes that were painted in the body color, rather than the traditional finish of black. Furthermore, the 15-inch wheels were fabricated as two-piece forged alloy units and were wider than those fitted to the 5000 QV.
Inside, Lamborghini replaced the Countach’s relatively basic manually operated windows with power-operated units. Furthermore, both seats were equipped with power-adjustable backs to increase driver and passenger comfort. A newer steering wheel was fitted, and the 25th Anniversary Countach was graced with a more powerful air-conditioning system.
Completed in October of 1988 at the Santa Agata factory, this 25th Anniversary Countach is reported to have been originally delivered new to the state of Georgia finished a classic combination of Nero exterior paint over a crisp parchment leather interior. The supercar is said to have spent the majority of its life in the Peach State until its current ownership brought the Lamborghini to the Northeast. Today, the odometer displays 8,742 kilometers (~5,432 miles) at the time of cataloging, which is believed to be accurate.
With so few miles on the odometer, it is no surprise the Lamborghini shows in wonderful condition. The exterior features all the wild flourishes that make the brand synonymous with bold style. Strakes, wings, ducts, and the classic “phone dial” wheels complete this icon of design. The interior complements this period look with tactile, chunky buttons for all of the various power functions, an Alpine 7903 CD-stereo, and a Veglia LCD digital clock.
Recent maintenance conducted in March 2022 included an engine service, clutch adjustment, oil change, and brake flush. In addition, new struts were installed for the front hood and rear bonnet. Further comments from the workshop note the functionality of the electronics and gauges in addition to confirming the engine possesses strong compression and leak down.
An undeniable icon of the Italian motor industry, the Lamborghini Countach cemented the brand as a true player against rival sports car manufacturers Ferrari and Maserati through powerful 12-cylinder engines and innovative designs. The 25th Anniversary edition served to both refine the model and amplify its outlandishness to create the ultimate iteration of this must-have supercar. With so few kilometers on the odometer and a recent service being completed, the example on offer will surely be a welcome addition to any garage.
