Description
Ferrari’s 400i continued the marque’s long tradition of producing fast, comfortable 2+2 grand tourers. The model evolved from the 365 GT4 2+2, which was introduced in 1972 and shared its basic engine architecture with the legendary 365 GTB/4 Daytona. The 400 GT was introduced in 1976, with an increased displacement of 4.8 liters. For 1979, the model was equipped with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and became the 400i.
This outstanding and desirable European-specification example was originally sent to dealer Monaco-Motors in Monaco through French Ferrari importer Charles Pozzi S.A. The 400i was then purchased by its first owner, Earle G. Cohen of Van Nuys, California, and imported to the US by Sun International. Copies of the original sales contract and canceled check from the purchase are part of an extensive file of correspondence and service records spanning nearly four decades.
Records on file indicate that by 2006 the Ferrari was owned by Brennan Johnson of San Luis Obispo, California, before being acquired by the consignor in 2010. The odometer displayed just 46,107 km at the time of cataloguing, with the accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report showing a consistent increase in mileage since 1991. Appearing very well preserved and resplendent in its lovely Argento (Silver) over Nero (Black) color combination, the 400i is accompanied by books, tools, and a jack.
Offered here is an exceptional five-speed manual Ferrari 400i that benefits from documented care from new. It is rare to find these cars in an appealing condition and specification, and for collectors who have been searching for such an example, this is a rare opportunity indeed.
*Please note that this vehicle will not be sold for use or resale in California or to a non-dealer California resident.
