Description

Chassis No. 7A842000708711374

For the 1967 racing season, Ferrari created what is now considered one of the finest endurance racing cars ever to leave Maranello. The beautifully proportioned, flowing coachwork was an evolution of the 330 P3, which had been fundamentally redesigned to outduel the American big-block might of the Ford Mk IV GT40 at Le Mans. Ferrari's new race car secured a 1-2-3 finish on Ford's home soil at Daytona and went on to claim the World Sportscar Championship of 1967.

The P4's tremendous pedigree and rarity - only three were ever constructed and a single example remains in its original configuration, as the other two chassis were converted for competition in Group 7 races - have made it a desirable subject for recreation. When it comes to replicas, few are as faithful to the original machine's spirit as this 330 P4, painstakingly hand-crafted in the Oamaru, New Zealand based workshop of Rod Tempero. Nestled under its alloy rear body is a four-cam 4.8-liter V12 engine out of a Ferrari 400i mated to a ZF five-speed transmission equipped with a gated shifter. It rides on a custom, independent front and rear suspension and a set of original-look, pattern cast wheels with knock offs. Inside, the bucket seats are trimmed in red leather and a correct-style steering wheel is situated on the left-hand side. Tying together this potent package is a custom, space-frame chassis by Tempero, providing light-weight rigidity for the track.

With over 75 years of family history in restoring and manufacturing vintage racing cars, Mr. Tempero's exacting fit and finish make this one of one replica a superb homage to the original P4. Ready to be shown, toured, or prepped for a track day, such a thorough and convincing replica is deserving of a serious motoring enthusiast or Ferrari devotee.
