Description
Chassis No. 8279
Presented at the annual Ferrari pre-season competition press conference in January 1964, the elegant 330 GT 2+2 debuted as a Gran Tourer with gorgeous exterior styling. With a principle layout that provided rear passengers with both improved legroom and headroom, the updated Series II was released near the middle of 1965 sporting a new front fascia. This redesign also brought modifications to the interior including a new suspended pedal box and revised center console. Production for the 330 GT 2+2 spanned from 1964-1967, with 474 examples of the Series II being produced.
The 330 GT had a 4.0-liter V12 based on the original Columbo with the new 'Tipo 209' engine having a slightly longer block and bore centers to accommodate the additional output of 300 horsepower. As a Series II model, this example features a five-speed all synchromesh gearbox with hydraulic clutch operation. With many updates over the preceding 250 GTE, the 330 GT had a chassis that was longer in overall length sporting Koni adjustable shock absorbers and a closed circuit Dunlop disc braking system.
Most notably, 8279 is believed to be the only example finished in the gorgeous Avorio (19377) exterior paintwork from the factory. This Ferrari 330 GT, beautifully restored by its third owner, is complemented by a Beige Scuro (VM 846) interior, this Ferrari was well optioned with both air conditioning and power windows in addition to Campagnolo ten-hole cast alloy wheels with knock-off Rudge hubs, it is currently fitted with chrome Borrani wire wheels, however, the Campagnolo ten-hole wheels shod in correct Michelin XWX tires also accompany the sale. It was most recently acquired by the fourth owner in 2015 after which he had an extensive mechanical service performed that included having the transmission rebuilt and replacing the fuel lines amongst other things. Per the Ferrari 330 GT Registry, a mere four owners have been fortunate to enjoy this wonderful example. With a known chain of experienced prancing horse collectors, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire a beautiful Gran Tourer in a most unique specification.
