Description

Hot on the heels of the 330 GTC, Ferrari introduced the GTS spider at the 1966 Paris Motor Show. It featured a five-speed transaxle with enclosed fixed torque tube driveshaft, designated Tipo 592, and a tubular steel chassis evolved from the second series 275 GTB. The heart of the new model was the Tipo 209/66 four-litre all-alloy 60° V12. This spider version, named 330 GTS, replaced the 275 GTS later that year. Designed by Pininfarina and assembled in Turin, it shared many similarities with the 330 GTC. Production continued until late 1968, evolving into the 365 GTS. Noteworthy design elements included a slender radiator grille, recessed headlights, and three side vents on the front fenders. The car’s front resembled the 500 Superfast, while the rear was similar to the 275 GTS. Pininfarina added a sleek hardtop-style roofline with thin pillars for better visibility. Triple louvred engine vents adorned behind each front wheelarch, with chrome-plated quarter bumpers matching the elegant chrome details throughout. Rolling chassis were sent from Maranello to Pininfarina’s Turin plant for fitting before returning to Ferrari for installation. Chassis N° 9297 was the 4th chassis made. It is one of 99 ever built. After its delivery through Chinetti Motors of Greenwich CT, it made its way to Geneva, CH in 1990, where it was eventually sold and remained in its ownership from 1998 until 2005. From January 2006 until July 2007, Pichler GFG AG undertook a complete nut and bolt restoration of the vehicle. It has remained in single ownership for the past 20 years.
