- Cette Citroën Traction Avant 11 BL a été livrée neuve le 25 octobre 1937 (voir attestation Conservatoire Citroën) à Mme V.D.B. en Haute-Marne. Il s’agit à l’époque d’une 11 BL noire standard. Après les hostilités, son gendre, M. Antonin Castor, propriétaire d’un garage utilise la voiture ; officier au sein de la 1re Armée du Général de Lattre de Tassigny, il est affecté en Allemagne, dans la zone Française, et est logé par réquisition chez M. Josef Eiwanger, directeur de la Carrosserie Spohn. À cette période, la carrosserie Spohn travaillait pour le compte de l’Armée Française. M. Eiwanger propose à M. Castor de lui carrosser spécialement deux voitures : cette Citroën Traction 11 BL et une Opel Super Six.
- Les modifications de la carrosserie ont été réalisées par Spohn vers 1948-1949, y compris le système découvrable. M. Castor, apportera au fil des ans des modifications complémentaires comme un habillage de tableau de bord plus récent, et un intérieur complet.
- Dans le style, on notera une forte influence de la Carrosserie Française de l’époque avec des ailes proéminentes aérodynamiques, des caches roues arrière et une nervure sur le coffre. Il est possible que la Graham Paige Saoutchik utilisée par le maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny pendant la Libération ait pu être une source d’inspiration.
- Le moteur de cette voiture n’est pas celui d’origine, mais son numéro de fonderie date de novembre, laissant supposer un remplacement peu de temps après sa livraison. Ce dernier a été redémarré et révisé, et il semble qu’il ait bénéficié en période d’une petite préparation, peut-être pour palier le poids de la nouvelle carrosserie (gros carburateur, carter d’huile grande capacité en aluminium). Les freins ont également été refaits, ainsi qu’une ligne d’échappement en inos sur-mesure !
- Le prochain propriétaire aura le choix d’entamer une restauration complète, ou de travailler la patine de l’auto (capote à refaire) pour espérer briller en Preservation Class de tout événement digne de ce nom. Voici l’opportunité d’acquérir une Traction Découvrable unique, signé d’un grand nom de la carrosserie Allemande.

- This Citroën Traction Avant 11 BL was delivered new on 25 October 1937 (see Conservatoire Citroën certificate) to Mrs V.D.B. in Haute-Marne. At the time, it was a standard black 11 BL. After the war, the car was used by his son-in-law, Mr Antonin Castor, who owned a garage. An officer in General de Lattre de Tassigny's 1st Army, he was posted to the French zone in Germany and billeted by requisition with Mr Josef Eiwanger, manager of the Spohn bodyworks. At the time, the Spohn coachworks was working for the French Army. Mr Eiwanger asked Mr Castor to build two cars specially for him: this Citroën Traction 11 BL and an Opel Super Six.
- The bodywork modifications were carried out by Spohn around 1948-1949, including the convertible system. Over the years, Mr Castor made additional modifications, such as a more recent dashboard trim and a complete interior.
- The styling was strongly influenced by the French bodywork of the period, with prominent aerodynamic wings, rear wheel covers and a rib on the boot. It is possible that the Graham Paige Saoutchik used by Marshal de Lattre de Tassigny during the Liberation was a source of inspiration.
- The engine on this car is not the original one, but its foundry number dates back to November, suggesting that it was replaced shortly after delivery. The engine was restarted and overhauled, and it seems to have benefited from a little preparation during the period, perhaps to compensate for the weight of the new bodywork (large carburettor, large aluminium oil sump). The brakes have also been rebuilt, along with a bespoke inos exhaust system!
- The next owner will have the choice of embarking on a full restoration, or working on the car's patina (soft top to be redone) to hope to shine in the Preservation Class of any event worthy of the name. This is your chance to acquire a unique Traction Découvrable, signed by a great name in German bodywork.
