Description
Reimel Motor Cars is excited to present this 1931 Bugatti Type 51 by Pur Sang, featuring a beautifully patinaed dark blue exterior paint complemented by a Bordeaux leather interior.
The Type 51 is one of Bugatti's most iconic race cars, regarded as the spiritual successor to the legendary Type 35. While it resembles its predecessor, the Type 51 has a supercharged DOHC 2.3L straight-8 engine producing 160 hp. These rare racing legends from the 1930s are limited to 40 units crafted by Bugatti.
Due to the unavailability of original models for many enthusiasts, Pur Sang from Argentina provides a comparable experience at a more accessible price. Alongside replicas like the Alfa Romeo Monza, the Pur Sang Type 51 is hand-built by skilled artisans in Argentina, offering an exhilarating experience while integrating modern features like enhanced tires and seals. Pur Sang ensures each Type 51 adheres to the original design and material standards used by Bugatti. This is not merely a replica; it's a bolt-for-bolt reproduction of Ettore's racing machine, virtually indistinguishable when driven.
This example, Chassis # 510B0, was purchased new from Pur Sang in September 2008 by its first of just two owners. It features a 2.3L Supercharged Dual Overhead Cam Straight 8 engine that faithfully replicates the performance and experience of the original. High Mountain Classics, a Bugatti specialist in Fort Collins, CO, has serviced and maintained it consistently, incurring significant costs for modifications and repairs over time.
In October 2009, the car underwent a major refresh, where all suspension and steering components, the fuel system, and brake system were cleaned and reassembled. During this time, new tires and race tubes were added. This refresh was extensive and expensive.
The engine was detailed and dyno-tested at Engle Automotive in January 2010. Subsequent modifications addressed issues with the fire extinguisher and fuel leak, and by 2014, it received further repairs including water pump modifications and fuel line replacements.
This Pur Sang Type 51 presents a unique opportunity to enter the pre-war car market, boasting a distinguished pedigree and flawless service record. It's ideal for selective events, whether rallies or concours. It allows the new owner to experience one of Ettore's masterpieces, along with copies of original purchase documents and thorough maintenance records.
