EXTERIOR
The Z3M Roadster design is a triumph of the traditional long bonnet sports convertible design. With wider rear arches, deep dish wheels and quad tailpipes the car certainly fits the muscle car profile although BMW do reference the past with those elegant chrome side vents reminiscent of the 507 roadster.

This particular example is finished in the vibrant Imola Red, 1 of just 4 RHD examples ever made. Presentation is first class throughout with only a handful of stone chips to the bonnet belying the cars age and mileage.

A removable hard top is a welcome addition; providing opportunity for all year round motoring or an alternative coupe style aesthetic.

INTERIOR
The two-tone leather sports seats are in excellent condition and remain free from any sagging or damage, still feeling firm and supportive. The smart black and red combination offers layers of depth that partners the paintwork and is carried through to the door cards and centre console, all of which is in fine order with no scuffs or marks; in fact it looks and smells like new. The chrome additions to dials, gear gaiter, dash rings and light pull switch provide a stylish lift to a beautifully finished cabin with all switchgear feeling solid to operate and showing minimal wear.

A rare and unusual addition, the AC Schnitzer parts catalogue has had most of the boxes ticked with a generous array of interior parts now featuring the logo from the esteemed Aachen specialist.

The carpets are perfectly clean throughout, protected in the foot-wells with a set of black over-mats showing no signs of wear. All of the tools and spare wheel are still present, situated under the boot carpet which remains spotlessly clean.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Being a later example, this Roadster is equipped with the stunning S54 engine – 1 of just 73 cars produced from 2001 – 2002. The engine can be identified by the ”M” inscription on its cam cover, differentiating from the BMW M Power font you will find on the earlier cars.

Start up and test are faultless, with the venerable inline 6 providing plenty of torque to ensure that the car is as happy at cruise as climbing the revs – a perfect compliment to the long ratio 5 speed ‘box and the handling characteristics of this capable cabrio. An Eisenmann exhaust is a welcome addition and amplifies that straight six sound beautifully.

The ZF Type C 5-speed manual gearbox feels tight and precise shifting through the gears, handling the power perfectly.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This M Roadster sits on a stunning set of period Schnitzer Type 1 split-rims with the deep rear dish on the rear providing that typically broad, aggressive stance. The alloys are shod in a matching set of Falken FK’s with plenty of tread remaining.

Sitting on a Schnitzer developed suspension set up with matched springs and damper valving, this BMW approved kit reduces roll and improves compliance.

The brakes feel strong and confident bringing the car to a standstill quickly and smoothly.

HISTORY FILE
First registered in October of 2001 by Ocean Torbay this stunning roadster would return to the supplying dealer for it’s running in service the following month at 1,024 miles. The car would be serviced with the main dealer on a further 4 occasions up to 47k miles before Schnitzer agent Rossiters, and latterly Munich Legends, would assume duties.

With valve clearances checked and adjusted to spec at 54k miles, this exceptionally rare roadster had a braking system overhaul and alignment at 57k miles prior to it’s last invoice in January of 2024 just a handful of miles ago. The most recent work in January included replacing the timing chain tensioner seal, replacing the differential bush and rear subframe bushes.

With a full and complete book pack, inclusive of Becker operation guide and radio code, the original service booklet outlines the regular service routine as well as supplementary invoicing that details other works carried out over the years.

This is really quite a rare and desirable late S54 variant with sensible miles and lovely provenance complimented by that special Schnitzer twist.
