Description

BMW 635 CSi E24

The first generation of BMW’s 6-Series, internally known as E24, was introduced to the press at the beginning of 1976. Being the successor of the E9 Coupe, the E24 was designed by well known designer Paul Bracq. The real car enthusiast will know that Bracq was responsible for the design of the Mercedes 230 SL Pagode of the 1960’s and other cars of that brand as well.

Instead of the E9 Coupe, the E24 was fitted with a B-pillar which still makes it a beautiful looking and timeless coupe. The so called ‘Sharknose’ was born!
The program of the 6-Series started with the 630CS, which had a power output of 185 BHP.
The bodies were first built by Karmann, but from the Autumn of 1977 BMW took over the complete production. This makes that early E24’s are very sought after, due to the low production numbers.

Apart from the 630CS, BMW introduced a more powerful 633CSi with 197 BHP, both of which were available with a manual 4-speed Getrag box and a 3-speed ZF automatic.
The 3-speed automatic was later to be replaced with the new ZF 4HP automatic gearbox.
In 1982, a facelift introduced many improvements coming from the E28 5-Series. Not only the engine, but also the chassis, the suspension and the interior were improved. A new rear axle meant that the handling was even better than before, and the complete body was much better protected against rust.
A very important year was 1984, when BMW introduced the new M635CSi. No longer had the engine 218 BHP as in the normal 635CSI, the M635CSi had a whopping 286 BHP. Even by today’s standards, that is a lot of power!
For the American market only, BMW introduced their first M6 model, which had a less powerful engine with 260 BHP.
Until the end of production in 1989, both 635CSi and M635CSi where available to order.

Although we hope that you have enjoyed above’s history lesson, we can no longer wait to introduce you to this unique BMW 635CSi. And yes, we can hear you thinking. What is so special about a 635CSi? Please continue reading to find out.
This specific 635CSi was newly delivered to its first owner on the 27th of August 1982, by BMW-dealer ‘BOMA’ in Scheveningen, The Netherlands.
The first owner was not only well to do, he also had a very good taste for cars. The colour combination of ‘Balticblau’ with a ‘Pearl Beige’ leather interior still looks as beautiful as it did back in 1982. Very timeless.
Very unusual are the options on this 635CSi. Not only the sunroof was chosen as an option, air-conditioning as well. Very rare indeed, especially in Holland.
Apart from the straight six with 218 BHP, producing a wonderful soundtrack, the automatic ZF gearbox is a real treat. Silky smooth gear changes are exactly what you want in this GT-like BMW.

After being owned for some 5 years, the 6-Series was sold and became the property of the second owner, who would keep the car for nearly 25 years and meticulously cared for it.
The current owner decided to go a step further, and we just couldn’t believe our eyes when we only recently where introduced to this 635CSi in person.
It was as if we stepped back in time. Back to the year 1982, when BMW-dealer ‘BOMA’ handed over the keys to the first owner.
Some 42 years later, we were looking at a brand new BMW 635CSi. First paint all around, original leather interior and fitted with the original wheels.
The spare wheel with Michelin TRX-tyre wasn’t even removed from the car since new!
A very small but important detail, is the ‘ABS’ sticker on the instrument panel. By law, car manufactures had to inform the owner about this system when it was included in their car. That sticker is still there….
Even the windows including the front windscreen, are still the original ones. The toolkit was never used, as were the ‘Tesla’ spare light bulbs originally delivered by BOMA as well.

The current owner decided he really wanted to preserve this amazing 6-Series for the next generation. He therefore not only decided to let BMW-specialist ‘KONA’ in Wateringen to carry out all kind of maintenance, he also managed to track down both sales executive and service manager from BOMA in Scheveningen who had sold and prepared the 635CSi to and for the first owner, back in August 1982. Just how special is that?
Apart from the technical and preventive maintenance, the owner decided he wanted to fully enjoy his 6-Series and asked a real audio specialist in our region to design a system with Bluetooth which nobody could see was not original since there are no extra holes, but one which produced a fantastic sound.
The interior of the 635CSi looks to be completely original, and also the original head-unit from Philips is still available. If the next owner wants to have the original speakers placed back in, they are still with the car.
Together with the original alloy wheels and tires, a wider BBS set is available which are refurbished by one of the best specialists in our country.
It is with a very heavy heart that the current owner has decided to ask us to sell his beloved 635CSi. Upcoming emigration has speeded up the decision, but has not made it any easier.

Therefore, we would welcome you in our showroom to show you this highly original and very beautiful BMW 635CSi yourself. We hope that a new owner will preserve it like it is. Just in the way as the previous owners have taken care of it.
