Rolls -Royce and Bentley realised that it would be unwise to rely on the traditional coachbuilders of the pre -war years to produce enough bodies to make the production of chassis economically worthwhile after World War II. During the 10 year production period from 1946 to 1955 for the Mark VI and the ‘R’ Type Bentley body style, only 20% of the Bentleys built carried special coach built bodies. One of the prettiest offerings was a Hooper bodies coupe designed by Osmond Rivers. On a Bentley this design was retained from 1951 to 1955. Bentley eventually lost most of its identity and now only superficial details separate it from Rolls-Royce.
This Bentley Mark VI has been subject to a complete body off restoration by Alpine Eagle including engine, gearbox, drive train, bodywork, trim and paint. B287NY is the ‘Big Bore’ 4.5 Litre type of 1952. It was fitted with 2 door coachwork by Hooper; only 7 of these cars
