Description
The BMC Mini Moke is a quirky and iconic vehicle that originated as a military utility vehicle in the 1960s, designed by the British Motor Corporation (BMC). Built on the same platform as the classic Mini, the Moke features a simple, boxy design with an open body, lacking doors and a conventional roof. Its lightweight construction and compact size were intended for easy transportation and manoeuvrability, making it ideal for military use. However, due to its low ground clearance and limited off-road capability, it was never widely adopted by the military. Instead, the Mini Moke found unexpected popularity in civilian markets, particularly as a fun and practical vehicle for coastal and resort areas.
The Moke’s versatility and charm quickly made it a favourite among beachgoers and adventurers, especially in warmer climates. Its simple design allowed for easy customization, and its durability made it a reliable choice for various recreational uses. The Moke was produced in several countries, including the UK, Australia, and Portugal, and became a symbol of carefree, beachside living. Over the years, the Mini Moke has gained a cult following, celebrated for its unique design and playful character. Even decades after its initial production, the Moke remains an enduring icon of 1960s automotive culture, with modern revivals and reproductions continuing to capture the spirit of the original.
The early RHD Mini Moke that we are pleased to offer for sale was built in 1969 and is finished in Gulf racing colours over a Black vinyl interior. It has recently been subject to a significant mechanical overhaul with renowned Mini specialists Swiftune. This included a full rebuild of the engine and gearbox and a complete overhaul of all suspension and running gear as per Swiftune’s advise and expertise.
The Moke has covered just over 100 miles since works were completed and represents a fantastic British classic guaranteed to make everyone smile. Contact us now for more information or to arrange a viewing.
