Description
"The Austin Healey 100 was built between 1953 and 1956 by the British Motor Corporation. It was developed by Donald Healey to be produced in-house by Healey's small car company in Warwick and based on Austin A90 Atlantic mechanicals. Healey built a single 'Healey Hundred' for the 1952 London Motor Show and the design impressed Leonard Lord, Managing Director of Austin, so much that a deal was struck with Healey to build it in quantity at Austin's Longbridge factory. The car was renamed the Austin Healey 100. The '100' name comes from Donald Healey who selected the name from the car's ability to reach 100mph as opposed to the Austin Healey 3000 which is named for its 3000cc engine. The final '100' models, 1956's 'BN4' (2+2 seats) and 1958's 'BN6' (two seats) were six-cylinder 100/6 cars. To make room for the occasional seats the wheelbase was increased by two inches. The bonnet had a built-in air scoop and the windscreen no longer folded down.
Subject to a full mechanical and bodywork restoration this stunning example was manufactured in 1958. Presented beautifully in green coachwork with a newly trimmed interior in contrasting blood red Nappa leather with new wool carpets and new tonneau cover. Boasting a manual gearbox, this desirable four-seater is UK registered, and the original engine has been uprated and bored out to 3.0 litre, this coupled to a new wiring loom, rebuilt carburettors and a lightened and balanced flywheel, new engine mounts and clutch. The cooling has been uprated with a new aluminium radiator, new fan and new water pump. The fittings are all zinc or stainless steel in the engine bay and the car now also benefits from electronic ignition and disc brakes. A look underneath also gives an indication of the extent of the restoration for what is a great looking car. The most desirable model with the most desirable engine, this example will deliver many more years of driving pleasure with its classic good looks and strong performance this example looks fabulous.
