Perhaps the best example present one could wish for, this example was delivered new on Christmas Eve 1965. Its first owner was a successful film director, with a string of well-known British comedies to his credit. A nice link to Aston Martin is that this gentleman worked on a thriller called Checkpoint. With a fast-paced plot centred around a fictional racing team taking part in an Italian road race (actually the Mille Miglia, the scenes were captured during the real race) the films four-wheeled stars were rare V12 Lagonda sports cars, and the team transport consisted of DB2/4s sporting AML registration numbers. The next owner appears to have been the London-based son of a film producer and gave a company name and St James Place SW1 as the keeper details. No exact dates are recorded for the changes of ownership, but the next recorded owner was a director of the family-run Standard-Triumph dealership in Brixham, Devon. The garage is still trading today (July 2023) and in the ownership of the same family! Moreover, several family members own Aston Martins today and say they remember this DB5 very well. The car changed hands again in 1995, with its old V5 logbook showing it had had four previous owners since 1978. The mid-90s owner is a well-known figure in the motorsport world as well as being a lifelong Aston Martin owner. Aside from owning several cars, he has a strong connection to the company itself.
