Description
To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' Paris event, 4 - 5 February 2025.
- A French-market example; delivered new to Paris
- Presented in its factory-correct colours of Aegean Blue over Black Connolly leather
- Retains its matching-numbers 3,995-cc engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox
- Known ownership history from new, remaining in France until 2009
- Benefits from mechanical and cosmetic work carried out by Clark & Carter Restorations
Though the DB5 looked much like its predecessor, the DB4, mechanical upgrades had the straight-six engine bored out to 3,995 cc while the new car also gained triple-SU carburettors, Girling disc brakes, and redesigned suspension.
This desirable left-hand-drive DB5 was delivered new to Paris via Garage Mirabeau in January 1964, with its first owner noted as one M. J. Compte. According to a copy of the factory build sheet, the car was specified with chrome wheels and finished in Aegean Bue over Black Connolly leather, the colours it still wears today.
The Aston Martin has had eight owners, and all but the final and consigning owner were based in Paris. Invoices available on file date to the sixth custodian, the French architect Fernand Tsaropoulos, who had the car between 1986 and 1998 and maintained it with Automobiles d’Antan in Chatillon. Under the care of the next two keepers, the DB5 was looked after by Auto Performance, the official French Aston Martin dealer, and RPM in Clichy.
This DB5 joined The Curated Collection in 2009. From 2021 to 2024, Clark & Carter Restorations completely restored the drivetrain and cosmetically recommissioned the car; they also fully retrimmed the interior in late 2024.
Presented in an ideal condition for future enjoyment, this rare left-hand-drive example will be perfect for touring the roads of Europe or North America.
