Description
To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Munich event, 23 November 2024.
- A sought-after DB4 Series IV, combining the best features of both early and late models
- Left the factory wearing a Caribbean Pearl over White Gold leather colour combination
- Delivered new to Florida in left-hand-drive configuration
- Ready for recommissioning, and offered complete with factory data sheet
Launched in 1958, the Aston Martin DB4 melded stunning lines by Touring of Milan with phenomenal performance. Hugely capable and eye-wateringly expensive, it was the definition of a jet-set GT. Five distinct Series were built—the penultimate combining the characteristic exposed headlights (largely superseded for the Series V) with a smaller bonnet scoop and redesigned grille. Arguably the most attractive, the Series IV also benefited from improved cooling. For many, it’s the DB4 to have.
This particular Series IV was supplied to its first owner, a Miami physician, by New York dealer J.S. Inskip. Finished in Caribbean Pearl over White Gold leather, it was delivered on 1 June 1962 and specified with a 3.77:1 axle, close-ratio gearbox, oil cooler, and Avon Turbospeed tyres. The Aston Martin was fitted with a Special Series engine, though it is now believed to be powered by a restamped unit.
Although little is known of this car’s history since January 1963, the data sheet indicates that by 1989 it had passed to Chelmsford, Massachusetts. In more recent years, the DB4 has formed part of a collection in Kuwait. This Series IV will require mechanical inspection and recommissioning prior to being driven and as such, it is a perfect candidate to be brought up to the purchaser’s ideal specification.
