The Aston Martin DB MKIII represents the last of the David Brown era cars built at the Feltham factory. The body was however produced at our Newport Pagnell factory before production moved in its entirety, making it even more poignant that this superb example from 1959 should be available with us here 66 years on. The 1950s saw Aston Martin truly establish itself as a leading sportscar manufacturer, competing against the likes of Ferrari and Jaguar. Success and multiple wins were achieved with the DB3, 3S and DBR sports race cars, culminating in an outright LE Mans win in 1959 - the same year as this particular DB MKIII.This MKIII is a special example. Not only has it retained its all important matching numbers status, it is also one of a mere 47 cars fitted with the "Special Series" engine from new. We would call this Vantage in the more modern era, signified with a DBD engine designation. Instantly recognisable with three SU carburettors and a quoted 180 bhp and 120 mph top speed - It's the last word in MKIII performance.The car is complete with an enormous history file filled, with many interesting historical documents including its petrol rationing book together with bills and invoices from the early 1970s. Interestingly it passed through the hands of Wing Crd V.C Woodward DFC & Bar who also earned Ace status during World War 2. Owned by one family since 1970 and retaining so many original features it's a true collector's delight. A car that not only has a great turn of pace but will turn heads on many classic rallies.
