Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1966, the Alfa Romeo 1600 Spider was an instant success with its stunning styling and nimble performance, the result of Pininfarina's wind tunnel experiments. It shared the same platform, 1570 cc twin-cam engine, four-wheel disc brakes and five-speed gearbox as its sister models, the Giulia coupé and sedan, only with a shorter wheelbase.
The name ‘Duetto’ was chosen by Alfa Romeo from a public competition for the name of the new car, but the name was soon dropped due to trademark issues. It was subsequently nicknamed ‘Osso di seppia’ (squid's shell) due to its distinctive boat-tail shape.
It also attracted people's attention when it appeared as his favourite car in the film "The Graduate", starring Dustin Hoffman. The Duetto evolved over the years, and in January 1968 it was replaced by a 1750cc unit, and in June of the same year a ‘Junior’ with a 1300cc engine was added. 1970 saw the introduction of the ’ Coda Tronca’ tail end and the displacement was increased to 1962cc.

This Duetto is a pure 1600cc model, registered in Japan in 1990 and owned by several owners since then. At first glance, it has a good atmosphere that shows it has been well cared for.
The combination of white body, black roof and Bordeaux interior is calm yet elegant. The door is nicely fitted and the side indentations stand out beautifully. As for the mechanic, the car has undergone general servicing, including engine OH (it has travelled about 3000km since it was done), clutch replacement and suspension servicing including front and rear suspension kit/shock absorbers replacement. The windscreen has also been replaced with a new one, so you can enjoy a stress-free and exhilarating drive. This is a car that is great to look at in the garage, great to drive and will make a great companion.
