EXTERIOR
Unmistakable in Alfa Rosso Red, the Alfa 75’s box profile was gently massaged over time to meet the demands of circuit racing and we have a very special ‘omologato’ here; a Veloce inspired 3.0.
A well known car amongst the UK Alfisti, this sublime 75 was a passion project of leading Alfa specialist – Alex Jupe. With a brief from the owner the work started with a full strip down of all lights, front & rear screens and body kit before grafting GRP front wheel arch extensions to the original steel front wings complimented by Veloce front & rear bumpers. A full repaint was then carried out in the original colours (AR555), including all body kit parts and the grey waist line moulding. Finally, a complete Dinitrol 4941 underbody anti-rust protection was applied as well as treatment of all cavities, chassis rails and inner arches.
With PPF treatment to the front of the car and a ceramic coating applied in 2022 the condition remains superb and sits as one of the finest examples of the last ‘real’ Alfa Romeos ever produced.
INTERIOR
Having been completely re-trimmed in OE Monza and Avus trim material throughout the cabin space presents in immaculate condition, with the LE-spec Recaro front seats a striking centre-piece offering incredible lateral support and feel. The stepped dashboard is a real throwback with instrument binnacle and analogue central dash display bathed in a warm ’80’s orange glow.
A Momo prototipo wheel provides just the right diameter, while rear blinds, a sunroof and the original Blaupunkt stereo complete an attractive option list.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 75 3.0 V6 got an evolution of the revered Busso with a bore to a full three litres; now close to 200bhp and complimented by that absolutely epic soundtrack.
This engine was completely rebuilt at 87,000 miles by Alex Jupe and now features SZ High Compression pistons, Colombo & Barriani fast road cams and a gas flowed cylinder head. With further work including a mechanical tensioner with Alfa Aid pulley kit and 155 type cambelt, AJM breather hose kit and lightened flywheel this Busso is robust, reliable and full of character thanks to Hayward & Scott custom manifolds and Ansa Sport twin tail backbox.
The drivetrain has been thoroughly inspected and rebuilt to factory specification with LSD and an AJM Quickshift gear linkage.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
A perfect compliment to the Veloce inspired bodywork, the custom made NTM Alfa SZ-style 16 3 piece split rims look just right under the arch extensions – unmarked and wrapped in 205/45/16 Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres.
The braking system has been suitably upgraded with an Alex Jupe 295mm AP front brake kit whilst the rear brake callipers and discs have also been replaced. With Ferodo DS2500 pads, accompanied by stainless brake hoses throughout, this 75 has fantastic stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
Originally sold as a UK 3.0 car by Ramponi Rockwell of Lancaster Mews in April of 1988, E817 MUL was first registered to a Stockbroking company in the Capital and would remain with it’s first owner until 2010. The car would then enjoy 5 years with it’s second keeper up until 2015 before sale to it’s current enthusiast owner.
As a fan of Alfa it was inevitable he would cross paths with Alex Jupe, who had known the car for many years prior, and the brief was to create a fast road spec car with Veloce style body, updated interior and upgrades to the engine, brakes & suspension with the running gear to also be stripped and rebuilt. The car was collected in 2015 and sent straight to Jupe and over a 13 month period the car was built from the ground up with a total build cost excluding the car of £50,000. Since then all subsequent servicing and fettling has been carried out by AJM each year with the last service in November of 2024 which saw a fluids / filters replacement as well as work to the exhaust system. The car presents extremely well and has enjoyed a thorough service routine since restoration with it’s original engineer.
Since the vehicles complete restoration, a mere 3,300 miles have been covered and during this time the car has been in professional dry storage where it has been run up to temperature each month and driven on dry days only.
The history file features all the original handbooks from new, inclusive of stamped service book, and substantial invoicing since the turn of the millennium. There is even an excel spreadsheet of each MOT, service and ownership change from day one.
Alongside the exceptional history file are two 3 page articles on this car featured within the Auto Italia and Modern Classics magazines which emphasis just how good this classic drives and handles.
A rare and unusual sight today, the 75 is certainly a more left-field choice for Italian enthusiasts but if you’re after the best of the best look no further – especially considering this was the end of what many would call the proper or classic Alfa – Rear wheel drive, Busso V6 and engineering, rather than budget- led, technical configurations.
