Presented together with the 2000 saloon at the 1957 Turin Motor Show, the 2000 Spider prepared by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan won over the public with its elegant and sporty styling. Equipped with a wheelbase shortened by a further 20 mm, and power increased to 112 bhp thanks to twin-body carburettors and a higher compression ratio, the 2000 Spider was a success, even going so far as to be produced in almost 600 more units than the saloon. The harmonious beauty combined with the aggressiveness of the air intakes on the bonnet and the side scoops slimming the sides made the 2000 Spider one of the most elegant and successful Alfa Romeos of the post-war period.
This 1961 example was delivered new to the United States of America, where it spent most of its life. Acquired as a restoration project in 1994 by the current owner, it was fully restored over the course of more than 10 years. The body was brought to sheet metal, suitably sandblasted, with various areas of the bodywork restored and rebadged. The mechanics were looked after by Alfa Romeo specialists. The Giallo Paglierino colour is its original. The car was completed in 2011 and registered in 2012 and has been registered by RIAR. The car retains its original dynamo but for ease of use, it is equipped with the alternator.
An elegant, sporty and usable GT, this 2000 Spider Touring is without a shadow of a doubt a true Alfa Romeo purebred that will prove to be a source of satisfaction in the years to come.
