Stick 'em up! This outlaw Lancia Aurelia is the ideal getaway car

Heavily inspired by a legendary “Olivetti” Mille Miglia and Le Mans entrant, this hot-rodded Lancia Aurelia is certainly not for the purists, but the outlaws will love it. Watch as it heads to RM Sotheby’s upcoming sale in Arizona on January 24.

Restomods have become an integral part of a particular model’s distinction of late, with cars such as the Ford Escort Mk1 RS, MGB GT and many, many others all receiving a fresh new look and some much-needed upgrades. One model that many would argue was due a fresh set of underpinnings is the Lancia Aurelia, and British specialists Thornley Kelham made it their mission to create a highly capable machine that most certainly isn’t for the purists. Unquestionably stylish and backed by stout performance, the Fuorilegge is a truly envy-inducing hot rod, ideal for those who long to enjoy the purity and simplicity of a timeless classic with enhanced comfort, performance, and exclusivity. This unique example is heading to RM Sotheby’s upcoming Arizona sale on January 24th

Of the small batch of cars created, the example offered here was the fourth to be completed, commissioned by the consignor in 2017 and delivered in 2019. It is perhaps the boldest creation to have left the Thornley Kelham stable, thanks to the dashing Metallic Teal exterior shade and an interior space full of character, with diamond-stitched teal leather inserts on the seats and door cards. Tan hides cover much of the remaining surfaces and contrast nicely with the teal carpets and Alcantara headliner. Though beautiful, the interior is also purposeful, clearly intended for spirited driving, with a four-point racing harness, a Nardi-style wood-rimmed steering wheel, Tilton pedals, and a simple gearshift knob.

Beginning with a B20, the car was transplanted onto a Flaminia drivetrain, the engine bored out to 2.8-litres along with a host of mechanical extras, pushing the Lancia’s output to around 175 horsepower, more than enough to get the blood pumping. The body was tweaked throughout in the style of a famed B20GT that won class victories at the Mille Miglia and 24 Hours of Le Mans, with the roofline lowered extensively for aerodynamics, the arches widened, a large scoop added to the hood, and the suspension modified, changing the entire look of this classic delight.

If you’re looking for a real smile machine to fill your 2025 event calendar with excuses to go out for a drive, this unique creation combines the very best of classic Italian design and modern technology and innovation.
