5 collector cars to put into your garage this week

The weekend is here, so we’re serving up a fresh piping-hot batch of collector car goodness. This week’s Market Finds includes a V12 BMW grand tourer, a pinnacle prancing horse in a surprising colour, and an unusual six-wheeler.

Float Like a Butterfly

Are you looking for hypercar performance from a 1980s 911? There’s really only one option: the magnificent Singer DLS. This particular car — known as the Quartz Commission — is number 19 of just 75 examples ever built, each loosely based on the relatively humble 964-generation 911. Developed in partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering in the UK — you know, the folks who build F1 cars — each DLS features a 4.0-litre air-cooled flat-six that revs to 9,000 rpm and produces a whopping 500 horsepower. Combine that with a curb weight of just 990 kg and you have a power-to-weight ratio that will make Veyrons lose sleep.

This particular car was completed in 2022 and is finished in bespoke Tweed Grey paint, while inside the cabin you’ll find a cocktail of warm grey and soft white pebbled hides, carbon fibre and titanium. There’s even a plaque to remind the driver to “Fulfil Your Potential,” which is obviously a polite way of encouraging enormous smokey burnouts.

The M8 That Wasn’t

BMW never built a dedicated M-version of the E31 8 Series, but this 1995 BMW 850 CSi is the next best thing. Powered by a 5.6-litre V12 that holds genetic ties to the heart of the McLaren F1, this super-coupe pushes 380 horsepower to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. However, that jewel of a drivetrain is just the tip of this appealing Alpine White iceberg, because its Klaus Kapitza-designed bodywork has to rank among the most beautiful designs that BMW ever put into production.

This particular car is one of only 1,510 examples ever built and currently shows just over 68,000 miles on the odometer. Its two-tone Light Silver-Grey Nappa leather interior remains in fabulous condition, wonderfully accentuated by its fine wood trim. As one of the last naturally-aspirated grand tourers produced by BMW in their prime, this 850 CSi is not to be overlooked. It even has pop-up headlights, what more could you want?

Pub Brawler

Long before MG was bought out by Chinese state-owned automaker SAIC Motor and began producing EVs, they were building gorgeous internal combustion-engined sports cars like this 1995 MG RV8. One of roughly 2000 cars ever built, this pristine 12,242-mile example is equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox connected to a lovely 3.9-litre naturally aspirated V8. At 190 hp, its power figures aren’t particularly noteworthy, but weighing in at just 1,090 kg it still manages to sprint to 60 mph in a respectable 5.9 seconds.

Beyond the rarity, this MG RV8 adds to its appeal with its fantastic colour combination of Woodcote Green Metallic over a full leather Stone Beige interior and matching soft top. With chances of MG ever producing another V8 roadster like this being slim to none, we wouldn’t hesitate to add this delightful British bruiser to your collection.

Super Suzuki

What’s better than a Suzuki Jimny? Well, not much we think you’ll agree, but a Suzuki Jimny with an extra axle might be the answer! This 2019 Jimny decided it wanted to be a Mercedes G63 6X6 when it grew up, and after Cotswolds-based Mocho Fabrication worked their magic, its wish became a reality.

Using genuine Suzuki parts, Mocho Fabrication added an extra axle, extended the chassis legs, made custom rear arches, and built a rear bed. Completed to an extremely high standard and finished in Audi Nardo Grey, you’d be forgiven for thinking this was a genuine factory-produced model, but as far as we’re aware this is the only six-wheeled Jimny out there. The only catch? This Jimny is still four-wheel drive, but that’s a small caveat to what is otherwise an immensely lovable and unique off-roader!

Hyper-Horse

With over 1,000 units made, the Ferrari F40 is by no means the rarest prancing horse out there — although at the rate owners are crashing them they may soon be — but that doesn't stop it from being one of the most heart-achingly desirable models from Maranello. Considering they all left the factory in red, we’re delighted that certain F40s are now being refinished in more exciting hues, and one of the best examples we have ever seen is this Hyperion Blue stunner.

Originally a late-model car delivered in Italy in 1992, this F40 was given its makeover by a prominent Ferrari lover who — after owning the car for several years and growing tired of the colour and certain driving characteristics — decided in 2023 to turn it into the poster car his teenage self could only dream of. Rebuilt from the ground up, this F40 was fitted with large Brembo brakes, fully adjustable KW suspension with lift kit, an ultra-rare one-of-thirty Michelotto LM gearbox, a Tubi Style exhaust, and upgraded air conditioning to keep the driver cool on a spirited drive. Nicknamed “The Blue Chip F40” this transformed prancing horse is now ready to blow your socks off.
