This Suzuki GSX1000SD Katana is a dream retro racer

It’s no secret that the 1980s aesthetic is more popular than ever in the automotive world and beyond, and with incredible restorations of classic designs, such as this Suzuki Katana, making more appearances, we’re not surprised…

Show and go

Built by Team Classic Suzuki, a factory-supported racing outfit dedicated to the restoration and reinvention of classic bikes from the Japanese firm, this Katana is a gem from that sacred period of plastic-fantastic racing when the power, colours, and on-track antics were always outlandish. Utilising parts from Suzuki’s growing Vintage Parts Programme, this bike stays true to its roots but with some subtle performance tweaks. The 1,100cc engine has been bored out to 1,170cc, with higher lift cams and stainless steel valves, and new suspension from K-Tech was fitted, as well as new wheels from Dymag, injecting some cutting-edge performance into this 1980s heavyweight. What separates this Suzuki from most bikes, with such gorgeous details and perfect finish, however, is that it’s to be raced amongst other racing royalty at Donington Park for Endurance Legends on 6–7 May, piloted by Steve Parrish, James Whitham, and Michael Neeves. For the lucky spectators, the sight and sound of this classic Katana at pace on track is sure to be sensational and one few will forget…
