The fame of a car can often come from one single moment in its life. It could be from its starring role in a movie, or the glory of winning one of the world’s toughest races, or, in very rare cases, it’s a combination of many. The Nissan GT-R has far more than just the silver screen to thank for its cult-like status, for its endeavours on the racetrack were the stuff of legends, as too is its poster-car desire for the PlayStation generation. Every person who has even the faintest of interest in cars knows what a GT-R is, and it seems even four-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel wanted to feel that legendary turbo pull.
With all the fame, history and desirability from its ancestors, the R35 had some rather large shoes to fill when it was first launched almost 20 years ago in 2007. Thankfully, the car was an immediate hit and built upon its ancestors unique driving chrematistics and supercar-killing performance. Even upon launch, the R35 boasted 485 horsepower, but due to the hand-built nature of the innovative 3.8-litre V6, output figures have reached as high as 530 horsepower from standard, a figure that almost rivals the latest-generation 911 GT3 RS!
This example is a true future classic, being the desirable Black Edition from 2012. This sleek package gave the GT-R you guess it, black paint, and matching alloy wheels, bringing a new level of stealth to this technology-filled rocket ship. Purchased in Switzerland in July 2012, this car was delivered to none other than Sebastian Vettel, one of the most successful Formula 1 drivers of all time. Keeping the GT-R in his private collection until this day, Vettel sadly never experienced the turbocharged spool, and so, even 10 years after delivery, the mileage of it still shows only 150 kilometres. This unique history, combined with a showroom-fresh finish, not to mention the rarity of finding an untouched example makes this GT-R a true investment of the future!
