Following a production run of 154 Dino 206s, Ferrari introduced the Dino 246 GT and GTS in 1969. Now boasting a 2.4-litre V-6, this engine produced 15 more horsepower over the previous 2.0-litre unit and was noticeably quicker than its predecessor. The new Dino could sprint to 100 km/h in just over eight seconds. The 246 Dino boasted near-perfect weight distribution, partly thanks to its mid-mounted engine layout. From 1971 to 1974, Ferrari would produce the final iteration of the Dino, designated the “E-Series”. These Dinos were equipped with dual-Weber DCNF7 carburettors, increasing the top speed to 239 km/h. Inside, the dashboard was revised, allowing for the installation of a radio and sliding heater controls.

Built on 21 December 1973, this Ferrari Dino 246 GTS was a late “E-Series” example. Finished in the dazzling colour of Marrone Dino Metallizzato over a Beige Vinyl interior, chassis 07474 was optioned with the desirable Daytona-style seats. Collected directly from the factory by first owner Franz Wiedemann, little is known of this Dino’s early life.

In 2015, 07474 was discovered as a restoration project in Japan, having covered approximately 37,000 kilometres. It was purchased by the current owner, and exported to Poland. In 2016, the well known Piotr Bem Restoration stripped 07474 back to a bare shell. Having close ties to Ferrari, the owner sent the chassis to Vaccari–the original chassis fabricator–for repairs, photos of which are available to view on file. Returning from Italy, the body was resprayed in its factory-correct colour of Marrone Dino Metallizzato. The engine was rebuilt, as were almost all other major systems, save for parts of the interior. The restoration was completed in 2023, and this 246 GTS was featured in the October edition of Polish classic car magazine Classicauto, and displayed at the Rozalin Concours d’Elegance. As of June
2023, this Ferrari Dino 246 GTS has been certified by Ferrari Classiche, and data from Matthias Bartz corresponds to its matching-numbers chassis, engine and gearbox. The Red Book is estimated to arrive in January 2024, but please contact an RM Sotheby’s representative for further details.

Freshly restored and having covered a little over 2,100 kilometres since completion, this desirable and beautifully specified Ferrari Dino 246 GTS retains its matching-numbers engine.
