The first generation BMW M3: introduced in 1985, born from a desire to go racing. The Group A regulations of the day required that at least 5,000 road-legal copies of a racing car had to be sold within twelve months in order for a vehicle to be homologated for racing. The result was a street version of what became the most successful DTM racing car of all time. A true racer for the road.

The M3 was a true exercise in lightweight, The front and rear bumpers, side skirts, boot lid and spoiler were all made of plastic. This combined with a light 2.3-liter naturally aspirated inline-four engine, specifically designed for the E30 M3 resulted in a weight of only 1200kg.

Today the M3 has reached icon status, and is for good reason many M aficionados favourite M car. This particular M3, was initially acquired by a restaurateur in Gothenburg, He took Delivery during the summer of '89, one of only 17 M3s being sold in Sweden that year. He chose the specification of an Alpinweiss exterior complemented by an exquisite chequered cloth interior, optional features including a sunroof and seat heating.

The second owner: Thomas Aiderfors, A true BMW enthusiast who had been looking for a M3 for a number of years. His criteria were precise—a domestic entirely original car in perfect condition. Unfortunately the car he wanted was not for sale. Fate intervened through a mutual friend who informed him of the restaurateur's exceptional car. In 2005, After two years of persuasion, The initial owner after 16 years of ownership finally agreed to sell Mr Aiderfors the car.

The car was everything Mr Aiderfors was looking for, a car in such fine condition, that six car magazines through his ownership used the car for various articles. All Magazines of course included in the sale of the car. In 2020, After 15 more years the car changed owners again, This time falling into the hands of racing driver Mattias Ekströms family, he and his father cherished the car together until it ended up at MOTIKON.

The three owners have all cared for the car immensely while keeping it well maintained with documentation to prove it. The car benefits from a recent complete overhaul including but not exclusive of new brakes, head gaskets and tires by us at MOTIKON, who specify in modern classic cars. Mr Aiderfors, who came in for a chat a few weeks ago told us: “An original example as good as this one is close to impossible to find”, We can confidently say we agree…
