Quattroporte, Ghibli, Bora, Merak: you know them all, the beautiful classics of Maserati. But the Khamsin, do you remember that one as well? The sleek coupe is one of the ultimate Gran Tourers of the 1970s. A car that was intended for high-speed travel across the European continent.

This Khamsin was first allowed out on the streets in 1977. The extra fun part is: it was headed for the Dutch streets. So, we are talking about a Dutch supplied car, which has had only three owners since 1977. Therefore, as far as known, we are talking about the only Maserati Khamsin with a complete Dutch history. Let's go back to the origin of this rare appearance.

In 1972, Studio Bertone was commissioned to design a Maserati for the first time. The Khamsin was first presented to the public as a concept model at the Turin Motor Show in 1972 at Bertone's stand. The model was very well received, and in March 1973, the production model stood shining at the Maserati stand at the Paris Motor Show. The Khamsin was presented as the successor to the Maserati Ghibli. Maserati also had the Bora in its lineup at the time, but many customers saw it more as a sports car than a Gran Tourer because of the mid-engine seated behind the front seats. The Khamsin solved that problem with its more conventionally positioned front-mid-engine. As the icing on the cake, the Khamsin was also a 2+2 and had a quite decent trunk space for its dimensions. Although the Maserati Khamsin should theoretically have been a resounding success, the oil crisis threw a wrench in the works, and Maserati ultimately only sold 435 units.

This Khamsin was sold new by The car was sold by S. Maasland in Voorburg, the importer of Maserati at the time. The salesperson, Gaaiko van Kampen, personally brought the car over from Modena by road, driving it himself. After a few years, the car was sold to the second owner, Robbie van Leeuwen. Music lovers might raise an eyebrow now; indeed, we are talking about the guitarist of Shocking Blue, world-famous for their hit 'Venus.' Van Leeuwen had the car repainted in the early '90s, transforming it from Marrone Colorado to blue metallic. In 1997, the car was sold to the owner who is also the last owner. The body of the Maserati is in very good condition. The paint is still the original blue applied in the early '90s and is still very well preserved. A deep luster and the absence of noticeable damage characterize the car.

The 4.9 V8 engine delivers 320 hp and runs fantastically. The engine was completely rebuilt about ten years ago and has since covered about 10,000 kilometers, so it has remained in excellent condition. The engine is positioned so far back that it has a mid-engine configuration. This is generally considered the best configuration for sports cars. The engine is mated to a manual transmission from ZF that is precise and has excellent gear ratios.

The interior is upholstered in beautiful, supple beige leather and is also in excellent condition. The controls and instruments are all in good condition and function as you would expect.

The car comes with a substantial folder of invoices and copies of the original ownership documents. The invoices provide a beautiful picture of how carefully the car has been maintained over the years. Recently, in the last year, about €10,000 euros have been spent on maintenance. All this maintenance was carried out by the same specialist over the decades.
