Introduced in 1955, the S-Type Continental was initially built as a two-door model, but customer demand soon called for a sporting four-door saloon. Having previously bodied the legendary R-Type Fastback, coachbuilder H.J. Mulliner was tasked with designing a four-door variant of the S-Type, soon to be named the “Flying Spur.”
The S2 Continental offered here, chassis BC18CZ was dispatched on November 10, 1961, finished in stunning Circassian Blue, to W.S. Lawson of Yorkshire, England. Later, the Bentley was owned by a Louisiana-based collector, then in 1998, it was purchased by a prominent Bentley Drivers Club member and collector, Peter Graham of Australia. The Flying Spur was featured in a Rolls-Royce Owners’ Club of Australia (RROCA) Præclarum club magazine article, which chronicled Mr. Graham’s fascinating 2,850-mile journey from Brisbane to Perth in the Bentley. He would conduct a restoration and go on to enjoy well over 100,000 miles touring the car. In 2011, a newly constructed engine was sourced from Bentley and installed, stamped with BC18CZ’s original engine number. In 2014, the Flying Spur returned to the UK with collector Tony Sinclair, and was maintained by marque specialists P & A Wood. Here, it would see a further £90,000 spent, carrying out a mechanical overhaul. Acquired in 2017 by its current owner, the Bentley has once again been maintained to a high level. Today, this world-travelled Bentley Continental presents the opportunity to acquire a well-loved example in a stunning color combination.
