Introduced at the 1953 London Motor Show, the AC Ace featured a tube chassis conceived by legendary chassis engineer John Tojeiro and an alloy body heavily influenced by Italian design of the period. In 1956, Bristol’s two-litre, inline six-cylinder engine was made available, transforming the Ace into a respectable performance roadster.

In October 1959, this AC Ace Bristol was dispatched from Thames Ditton, UK, to Texas. Originally finished in white with a black interior, it retains its matchingnumbers engine per its data plate and correspondence from the AC Owner’s Club. Importantly, it also retains number stampings on the original body components. In 1988, the car returned to the UK and was added to the collection of Lord John Mexborough. During his ownership, it received exhaustive maintenance, as evidenced by receipts accompanying the sale. In 2010, the AC changed hands and the new owner had an electric fuel pump and electric cooling fan fitted in preparation for long distance touring. Sadly, the new owner passed away several years later and the car remained static until the family was ready to part with it. Upon retrieval from storage, the Ace received attention to its braking, fuel, cooling, and exhaust systems. Though refinished in attractive Sage Green, most of the black interior, brightwork, and weather equipment are believed by the consignor to be original to the car. This elegant AC Ace is one of just 466 originally fitted with the uprated Bristol engine. It represents an exciting opportunity to acquire a well-kept and beautifully presented example of a proper British roadster.
