Beschreibung
This 1938 Packard 1605 Super Eight Convertible Sedan was sold new by Vail Motors of Long Island, New York, operated by Carl Vail, who once owned 20 automobile franchises. The Packard remained in New York until 1962, when it was sold by a restoration firm to a new owner in Houston. John O. Bohmer acquired this wonderful example in mid-2014 from Ernst Hillenbrand of Fremont, Ohio, who had purchased it in the early 2000s and performed a body-off restoration, which was completed in 2005. Finished in Packard’s Ivory White with a maroon leather interior, the Super Eight is elegantly accented by maroon pinstriping and piping to the black canvas convertible top. Other highlights include amber fog lamps, a restored banjo-style steering wheel, restored instruments, a radio, and a division window.
Following restoration, the Packard has earned numerous accolades at AACA, CCCA, and Packard Club judged events. It is also believed to have participated in Ohio’s Glenmoor Gathering and the CCCA Grand Classic at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan. Appropriately, this Super Eight also graced the cover of Torque, the magazine of the CCCA’s Michigan region. Accompanying documents include correspondence, a historical summary, prior insurance records and title copies, service records, and Mr. Bohmer’s purchase papers. An exceedingly rare, high-specification CCCA Full Classic, this very fine 1938 Packard Super Eight Convertible Sedan enjoys unparalleled event eligibility, and stands ready for further exhibition and enjoyment.
