Beschreibung
"Airstream is an American brand of caravans which are easily recognised by the distinctive shape of their rounded and polished aluminium coachwork. This body shape dates back to the 1930s and is based on designs created by Hawley Bowlus. Airstream trailers and recreational vehicles are manufactured in Jackson Center, Ohio. The company, now a division of Thor Industries, employs more than 800 people, and is the oldest in the industry.
Airstreamers are a group who share a community spirit because of their common love of the trailers. In the early 1950s, Airstream company founder Wally Byam began leading groups of owners on travels to many parts of the world, where the towed trailers were quite a remarkable sight. Photos taken of the trailers in front of many famous tourist sites were common. This promoted a mystique which surrounded Airstreams and persists to this day.
This lovely and very original example is presented in the iconic polished aluminium which looks great. It has been owned by the present vendor since 2009 when it was imported and then fitted with a new tow bar, chassis, wheels, brakes and road lights in order to comply with British regulations. Its interior is original including the kitchen area, WC area, enamel sink, shower tray, gas hob and domestic fridge (12/240 volt). The upholstery is typically American from that era, two bench seats (makes one pull-out double and a short single) which are in excellent condition according to the owner. The interior is true to the original and wired to 240/110/24 volts for lights and power. Its body is sound and the exterior is reflective of its age with only a small area of damage to the roof but the vendor states it polishes up well. This wonderful Bambi has won many rosettes at Brooklands and being the smallest in the Airstream range, makes it ideal for UK roads and is towable by a range of cars. "
