„Dieser unglaubliche Fiat Panda ist der kleinste Six- Wheeler der Welt

Mit diesem Einfall haben Horst Koch und seine Tochter Linda sechs Richtige gezogen. Entstanden in den 1980er Jahren und heute umfassend restauriert, passt der kleine, wendige Pickup perfekt zur aktuellen Panda-Mania. Wir unterhielten uns mit Linda Koch über den pfiffigen Lastenträger.

Ob Gianni Agnelli ahnte, welches Kultpotenzial künftig in dem kleinen Alltagsgiganten Fiat Panda stecken würde? Horst Koch von Koch Klassik in Heilbronn offenbar schon. Damals in den achtziger Jahren war er noch Vertragshändler in Heilbronn für Fiat, Lancia und Ferrari und hatte die Idee, das Multitalent in einen Pickup zu verwandeln. Er sollte bis Mitte der achtziger Jahre in einer Kleinserie bei Autohaus Koch gefertigt werden und unter anderem als Werbeträger für Firmen eingesetzt werden. Doch der Partner für dieses Projekt starb leider und so musste die Serie noch vor Start eingestellt werden. Aber ein Exemplar mit den spektakulären sechs Rädern wurde gebaut, welches nun einer umfassenden Restaurierung unterzogen wurde und heute wieder für Begeisterung sorgt.

„Ein Mercedes-Benz G-Modell im Kleinformat“, urteilt Linda Koch schmunzelnd. Der Fiat Panda als Pickup mit sechs Rädern entstand 1986 und wurde komplett in-house in den Werkstätten von Koch entwickelt. Die Fahrerkabine entspricht einem serienmäßigen Panda, aber eben mit einer angebauten Ladefläche. Deswegen erhielt er auch seine ganz eigene Plakette – KK. „Der Plan war damals ein Werbefahrzeug mit einer praktischen Ladefläche zu schaffen.“ Im selben Jahr hatte der Pickup sogar auf der IAA in Frankfurt am Main und auf dem Genfer Automobilsalon seinen Auftritt vor großem Publikum.

Der Klein[e] gehörte nicht zu den einzigen Umbauten von Horst Koch. Als er in den achtziger Jahren noch Fiat-Vertragshändler war und ehe er sich vor 20 Jahren aus diesem Korsett löste, um sich auf Handel und Pflege klassischer Fahrzeuge zu spezialisieren, hatte er auch die Idee, aus dem Panda ein erschwingliches Cabrio zu schneidern. Davon gab es wenige am Markt und die Nachfrage war groß: rund 250 Stück wurden gebaut, auch in der Version als 4×4.

„Die angedachte Serie mit drei Achsen war nie als Allrad konzipiert“, erzählt Linda Koch, „denn der technische Aufwand wäre enorm gewesen und hätte den Kostenrahmen gesprengt.“

Ursprünglich war der Pritschen-Panda außen blau lackiert und innen rot ausgekleidet. „Wir wollten ihn für heute moderner und zugleich dezenter gestalten. Deswegen haben wir einen Grauton gewählt auf dem auch mögliche Folierungen gut zur Geltung kommen.“ Soviel wie möglich wurde vom Original erhalten wie beispielsweise die weißen Felgen mit dem KK-Emblem, die seinerzeit auch als hauseigene Tuning-Kits erhältlich waren. Zu den Highlights zählen die schwarzen Ledersitze mit Ziernähten im grau der Lackierung. Den historischen Bogen von Koch damals und Koch Klassik heute schlagen der alte KK-Stempel auf dem Hupenknopf im Lenkrad und das neue Koch Klassik-Logo, das in die Kopfstützen eingestickt wurde. Seine Premiere im frisch restaurierten Zustand feierte dieser Panda gebührend [2020] beim Concours d`Elegance in Schwetzingen.

„Er fährt sich wie ein ganz normales Auto“, sagt Linda Koch. „Man steigt ein und erlebt das typische Panda-Feeling.“ Auch die Straßenlage des mit einem 70 PS starken Vierzylinders motorisierten Frontantrieb begeistert sie. „Jetzt wird er noch geschont, aber bei schönem Wetter soll er vor unserem Unternehmen stehen. Außerdem werden wir ihn ganz normal einsetzen, denn die Ladefläche ist mit einer Gummimatte ausgekleidet, die sich leicht abspritzen lässt. […]“

Die Türen sind aktuell mit unserem Firmenlogo beklebt, dies lässt sich jedoch ganz einfach entfernen. Besondere Highlights sind außer den 6 Rädern, die hauseigenen KK-Felgen aus den 80er Jahren Zubehörprogrammen für Fiat und Lancia, das herausnehmbare Plexiglasdach, die zur Ladepritsche zu öffnende Fahrgastzelle, die offizell eingetragene Anhängerkupplung, die Beleuchtung der Ladefläche und der fantastische Sound aus dem angefertigten Edelstahlauspuff.
Alle Umbauten sind eingetragen und vom TÜV abgenommen. 
Das Fahrzeug läuft offiziell unter der Herstellerbezeichnung "KK Automobile" und nicht mehr als FIAT, da die Umbaumaßnahmen in 1986 so enorm waren. 
Daher gelten wir als Hersteller und das Fahrzeug als Versuchsträger.

With this idea, Horst Koch and his daughter Linda drew six correct ones. Created in the 1980s and now extensively restored, the small, manoeuvrable pickup fits perfectly with the current panda mania. We talked to Linda Koch about the clever porter.

Did Gianni Agnelli have any idea of the future cult potential in the small everyday giant Fiat Panda? Horst Koch from Koch Klassik in Heilbronn apparently does. Back in the 1980s, he was still an authorized dealer in Heilbronn for Fiat, Lancia and Ferrari and had the idea of turning the all-rounder into a pickup. It was to be manufactured in a small series at Autohaus Koch until the mid-1980s and used, among other things, as an advertising medium for companies. Unfortunately, the partner for this project died and the series had to be stopped before it even started. But a specimen with the spectacular six wheels was built, which has now undergone a comprehensive restoration and is once again causing enthusiasm.

„A small-format Mercedes-Benz G model,“ says Linda Koch with a smile. The Fiat Panda as a pickup with six wheels was created in 1986 and was developed entirely in-house in Koch’s workshops. The driver’s cab corresponds to a standard Panda, but with an attached loading area. That’s why he received his very own plaque – KK. „The plan at the time was to create an advertising vehicle with a practical loading area.“ In the same year, the pickup even made an appearance in front of a large audience at the IAA in Frankfurt am Main and at the Geneva Motor Show.

The small one was not one of Horst Koch’s only conversions. When he was still a Fiat dealership in the 1980s and before he freed himself from this corset 20 years ago to specialize in the sale and maintenance of classic vehicles, he also had the idea of tailoring an affordable convertible out of the Panda. There were few of these on the market and demand was high: around 250 were built, including the 4×4 version.

„The envisaged series with three axles was never designed as an all-wheel drive,“ says Linda Koch, „because the technical effort would have been enormous and would have exceeded the budget.“

Originally, the flatbed panda was painted blue on the outside and lined red on the inside. “We wanted to make it more modern and at the same time more discreet for today. That’s why we chose a shade of gray on which possible foils come into their own.” As much as possible was retained from the original, such as the white rims with the KK emblem, which were also available as in-house tuning kits at the time. The highlights include the black leather seats with decorative stitching in gray paintwork. The historical link between Koch then and Koch Klassik today is marked by the old KK stamp on the horn button in the steering wheel and the new Koch Klassik logo embroidered on the headrests. This panda duly celebrated its premiere in a freshly restored condition [2020] at the Concours d`Elegance in Schwetzingen.

„It drives like a normal car,“ says Linda Koch. „You get in and experience the typical Panda feeling.“ She is also impressed by the road holding of the front-wheel drive with a 70 hp four-cylinder engine. „Now he’s being taken care of, but when the weather is nice he should be in front of our company. In addition, we will use it as normal, because the loading area is lined with a rubber mat that can be easily hosed down. […]“

The doors are currently stuck with our company logo, but this can be easily removed. In addition to the 6 wheels, special highlights are the in-house KK rims from the 1980s, accessory programs for Fiat and Lancia, the removable Plexiglas roof, the passenger compartment that can be opened to the loading platform, the officially registered trailer hitch, the lighting of the loading area and the fantastic sound from the made stainless steel exhaust. All conversions are registered and approved by TÜV. The vehicle officially runs under the manufacturer's designation "KK Automobile" and no longer as a FIAT, since the conversion work in 1986 was so enormous. Therefore, we are considered the manufacturer and the vehicle is considered the test vehicle.
