• Well-documented and in remarkable condition
• The rarest and most supreme iteration of the R5 Turbo
This 1985 Renault R5 Turbo 2 Evolution is in the shape of the rare and highly sought-after Type 8221 variety, the only version homologated for Group B. This example is car #133 out of 200 and has extensive documentation and is in outstanding condition with 89,470 kilometres since new.
The car was delivered new on April 22nd, 1985, to the Renault dealer in Montlhéry and is believed to have been driven around southern France. It was resprayed in 2016, received an engine rebuild as confirmed by a French specialist – documentation appended in the sale – and made its way to the United Kingdom in 2019.
The 8221 was the rarest of the R5 breed and was built to compete against the Stratos, Audi Sport, and Porsche 911 in Group B rallying. This example comes with the alloy roof and correct and matching chassis (F0010133) and engine (J000188) for its type.
This “8221” R5 Turbo 2 arrived in Sweden from the UK on February 26th, 2021, and has received a thorough inspection and service performed with the help of classic and modern classic specialist MOTIKON. All service has been documented, with receipts included in the sale.
Moreover, this R5 Turbo 2’s authenticity can be confirmed by numerous correct chassis plates, stampings, and features. The car, VIN VF1822100F0010133, has also been ratified by Olly Melliard, a leading UK-based R5 expert.
This 1985 Renault 5 Turbo 2 “8221” is a fantastic specimen of one of the most thrilling and unconventional homologation models. It’s ready to bring dollops of driving joy to its next caretaker and is available to view at the MOTIKON showroom in Uppsala, Sweden.
