Beschreibung
While Ford’s first truly dedicated light-duty pickups were based on 1928–1931 Model As, the new V8 models for 1932 revolutionized the concept and trumped archrival Chevrolet’s six-cylinder offerings. Ford’s V8 truck lines soon proved so popular that the long-running four-cylinder engine was cancelled in 1934.
Accompanied by a copy of the original Bill of Sale issued October 8, 1934 by Gardiner Automobile Sales Co. of Maine, this remarkably preserved and highly original 1934 Ford V8 Pickup possesses a delightful history. Purchased new by Oscar Blanchard and used on his dairy farm, the Pickup was later given to Julia Fish, who moved onto Mr. Blanchard’s farm with her husband and two children in 1945 as caretakers to the aging bachelor. A letter on file from prior owner Patty Harvey, one of the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Fish, documents the family’s nearly 70 years with the Pickup, including family visits, annual pumpkin harvests, shopping expeditions, and even driving lessons. In January 2014, the beloved truck was sold to Ken Tuttle, with a promise to provide loving care for it. The Ford V8 Pickup remained in Maine until January 2019, when Mark Smith acquired it for his noted classic car collection.
Finished in a lovely and patinated dark blue, this 1934 Ford shows a purity of design that has aged so well over the past 89 years. It stands as an incredible reference point for the model and will guarantee its next owner a prized place at any local gathering.
